XP-Pen Deco Pro XLW Gen 2 first impressions on Ubuntu 22.04

That may be a hassle… I think you would then need to send it back to China.

I can check if the popup could be worked around. I’m not personally bothered by it, but yes, it happens every time and I’m pretty sure it would happen after the reboot too.

As for Wacom Intuos Pro, the only issue that I’m aware of is that initially it just shreds the pen nibs like crazy, until the surface wears down a bit. Also that last Intuos was released a good few years ago, so it’s not the latest design. But if it works well…

It seems like all tablet brands are going hard on the flashy and expensive products like pen displays, and the folks who prefer a simple pen tablet are left with more limited options (when it comes to high-end, large size models at least).

There’s a workaround. You can just turn off the UAC popup completely in Windows settings, although that also means it is off for all the programs, you can’t set it on a per-program basis. If you solely use your computer and know the stuff you’re running, there should be no issues.

However, I talked to some other user who owns a Giano, namely The Seven Pens, and said that he didn’t encounter any issues like that… for any of the tablets he owns(he owns a lot of tablets). I’m just waiting for Huion’s reply if their drivers have conflict with Gigabyte Control Center before I make an order.

@YRH, I’d like to know if you still have your Deco Pro Gen 2 and if you’ve done any sort of firmware update with it. If you still have the tablet and hasn’t updated the firmware, would it be fine to ask you to try it out? XPPen’s firmware upgrade tool can be found here: Firmware upgrade tool | XPPen

Sorry, unfortunately I don’t have it anymore…

I’m ashamed to admit that I simply forgot to check that there’s a firmware update and was so turned off by the coarse pen tracking while hovering, that I just packed it right back into the box. Now the tablet is with someone in the family (it was a great upgrade for them).

But based on the response I got from customer support, the firmware update could fix the tracking problem. Maybe some else here can confirm if they own the device.

Dude, I didn’t know either. I just found out yesterday when I was casually talking to the dev of OpenTabletDriver and he sent me a link to XPPen’s firmware update page, which I find weird because I was sure a page like that didn’t exist. I tried opening XPPen’s website again and I couldn’t navigate to their firmware update page. :slightly_frowning_face:

I suppose I contacted the wrong support people because I complained to the support of the local estore I bought it from. I may have better support if I contact XPPen’s support email.

Anyway, would you perhaps suggest to the person you gave it to update its firmware if it’s not too much? :kiki_sweat_smile:

Hmm. Unfortunately, they aren’t that tech-savvy but I can try to inquire…

Assuming the firmware is updated, what information are you looking for? Whether that pen tracking is improved? I may have trouble getting that info without being there in person

I guess… Maybe I’m just coping hard, trying not to get a Wacom.

Honestly, Wacom really may be the best choice. But it feels baaad buying a device that’s now like 7 years old.

I’m planning to get an Intuos Pro when/if they finally release a new model.

Thanks to TheSevenPens, I found the biggest flaw in Huion, namely the pressure control is really janky… Thankfully, it doesn’t affect my workflow too much (that’s why I didn’t notice it at first), so wanting Wacom is just me being vain :stuck_out_tongue: (and curious if it really is that good).
