Zabbios sketchbook

I suppose I better make a proper sketchbook thread

Starting with this creature sketch  Doodeling while watching TV. I feel a bit rusty.

Good enough for me to call it a finished artwork. Great!

Thank you
If Id call it finished I’d want to either get clean lineart or paint over the sketch layers… And probably do some background. I was reminding myself on how to use layers and brush blending modes since I’ve been painting mostly traditional the past years

Also a little too worked for a sketch but I’ll post this self portrait here anyway  I do love the brushes in Krita.
This one is made on my new computer (HP pavilion plus 14) with -huion hs64.

I decided to try to redraw an old image (I think from 2012 or 2013. I see some improvement and some areas I definetly never practiced again :stuck_out_tongue: smoke or whatever textured, reaching things I was aiming for is still pretty bad. I like the mane better on the old one. Shoulder is better on the new one, but I should be able to do better yet. I know the musculature and that’s not it.

Old one is on the right, new one on the left. I don’t remember what program I used when I made the old one.

I had to do a double take on this one.

“Wait! Does this horse has fangs? And PAWS?!”

It’s a great chimera. I think your color choices have gotten better too. The new one looks more alive and vibrant whereas the old one looks a bit zombie like.

Thank you
Yes, fangs and paws makes everything better… :stuck_out_tongue:

A work in progress, just started. My own reference.

A little concept I sketched out. Mostly trying out my notepad again.

Trying to figure out if I would use a movink 14, and why I’m not using my xp-pen notepad (10.9"). I like the notepad, it feels cramped though. I like my kamvas 16 more, while the kamvas 13 is a bit too small too.. but it’s so long and narrow… it’s like an inch less height than my 14" laptop screen, but the same length. The kamvas 16 is the same height as my laptop screen but longer.. will the movink be comparable to my actual screen? I think I would like that. I like the drawing experience and have configured Krita in a way that makes it work for me on android, despite not having the key board shrtcuts… So why have it collected dust for several months? Is it just the size? That it’s kinda slow to start and large brushes lag a bit?
I’m finding that no matter how much I like linux mint, using the kamvas 16 is not quite as enjoyable anymore. It feels just slightly off.
I need to think about it. But I’ll probably not get rid of this brain bug untill I try..

(I know, if this is my biggest problem in life, I’m a lucky girl! What happened to the girl who scribbled on a volito 2 in a copy of PS 7 (from an actual CD-rom!) on a second-hand desktop with a thick screen and 512mb ram? Using one of those internet modems making creepy beebing sounds… what happened to technology?)

Been sketching more  Still on the xp-pen notepad and android Krita.
I ended up ordering the wacom movink 14 pro, so I better get used to the android and gestures..

I will say that the notepad has a pretty dull screen. I probably should keep the brightness to 100%, I notice that now when seeing how bright and saturated the bird-dragon is. I kinda like it, but it’s a differense.

Today was too nice and sunny to work, so I played hookie and headed fr the nearest national park, where I hiked and sketched a bit.

I will admit it’s not super pretty, but I do feel like I learn just by observing and scratching down marks. Also tried to match colors, which is not great on a digital display in sunlight but I think it’s close enough. It’s a cliff in a beechwood forest. The green “twig” levitating on the not-painted ground in the foreground is a fallen tree covered in moss. It’s a decent size cliff. And no green leaves because too early in the season.

(played hookie = I asked if I could quit earlier and got an okay. I have 17 overtime/extra hours I need to use - and today was a perfect day to use two of them. I’m also supposed to be flexible with my time on mondays, because we can’t quite fit all meetings and scheduled work in my 28 hour work-week, so I’m supposed to stay longer some mondays and go earlier other.. and I’m not good at actually going earlier so I probably should do that more too..lol)
