It seems that the exported SVG has more anchor points, which is particularly obvious in the curved area.
I have separated the thread. Please do consider that this is a feature request thread and only one topic should be discussed. The previous topic contained two or three conversation. Please discuss various features of csp and krita here and may be that can help us in creating the manual page.
The goal is to make the transition easier.
For anyone who may be able to help with this, the manual already has a section to advise people coming to krita from other software:
Introduction Coming From Other Software — Krita Manual 5.0.0 documentation
It concentrates on PS and Paint Tool Sai though with no mention of CSP.
There is still useful general information for everybody in that section.
Some thoughts, specifically in regards to a “How do you do that in Krita?” equivalent for CSP. Take everything I say with a grain of salt, this is partially based on my own experience switching (which was a long time ago) and partially based on just what I’ve seen pop up on Twitter.
-
Stabilization: Krita has stabilizers under the tool settings for brushes, and they’re pretty well documented already, but I regularly see people who don’t realize that this tool exists – I’ve seen a few CSP users on Twitter ask for stabilizers directly by name without realizing they existed already. Maybe expanding out the docs a bit with a screenshot would be helpful, but even just mentioning “we have a stabilizer” in a dedicated CSP section would probably help some people with the transition.
-
Some vector layer stuff: some of what I talked about above can be imitated by making use of spline assistants. It’s not perfect, but it is pretty helpful. See the vari-line-assistant thread from just a month or two ago, specifically @AhabGreybeard’s suggestion here on chaining together multiple splines. That’s a suggestion that works today in mainline Krita; it’s not a perfect equivalent of CSP’s vector layers but it will make long strokes easier to draw. Krita has a “Painting with Assistants” section, but it only very briefly covers splines and doesn’t really make it obvious that they can be used not just as a perspective or a curve tool, but as a way to stabilize individual strokes in a drawing. So it might be helpful to expand that section out a tiny bit, and I think it would also be helpful to link to that section in a CSP “How do I do that in Krita” page. I suspect for a lot of people coming over from CSP, using assistants in that way won’t be obvious, it certainly took me a long time to even open that section of the docs, because I assumed for a long time that assistants were just a perspective tool or grid tool.
-
Along those same lines, would be good to call attention to both View->Show Painting Assistants, and View->Show Assistant Previews. Also maybe overkill, but drawing attention to the fact that restricting snapping to a single spline at a time is a toggleable option.
-
I don’t have as much experience here to know what questions a CSP user would have, but Krita already has a number of ways to recolor lines. I typically use masks, but I don’t know if that’s the “preferred” way, and I’m not sure if there’s another way that would be more natural to a longtime CSP user.
-
There are a ton of great tutorials online about colorizing already, but… same deal as with stabilizers, I wonder how many people switching over to Krita know that the feature exists. I also don’t know how this compares to CSP or what options CSP offers in that area. Maybe Krita has an edge there? CSP’s manual describes an experimental coloration feature that’s driven by some kind of AI, if I’m understanding that manual correctly then Krita’s frankly seems to be a lot more straightforward and predictable. But again, I’ve never used it, I’ve only ever done coloration in Krita.
A lot of this stuff is documented but there’s not a page in the Krita manual that says, “hey, if you’re coming from CSP, check these other sections of the manual out.”

What do you think they would be looking for when they first open krita in its default form?
I saw an earlier post today looking for clear and reset [both available but kinda hidden]
I saw an earlier post today looking for clear and reset
Crud, that’s a really good point to bring up that I had just completely forgotten about, but you’re right. One of the first things I do when setting Krita up on any computer to this day is add the clear layer button to the upper left side of the main toolbar – I suspect it would be good to mention that it exists and to link to “Configure Toolbars” in the docs. It’s a very, very tiny thing but I remember struggling with that exact problem (again, take it with a grain of salt, it’s been a really long time since I used CSP and I don’t know if the clear button is even in the same place anymore)
I think we need someone who’s used CSP recently to talk about stuff like button placement though. I’m at the point where I don’t even really remember where CSP’s stabilization options were in their interface.
Hi, I’m a CSP user, I’m half familiar from the gemini/sketch era of krita, I use the animation tools in CSP, and make custom brushes I’ve been trying to find a page about how to convert layers into frames and making brushes.
CSP uses Animation folders which are special folders to make layered animations basically a layer for the line work another for the color and another for the backgrounds, FX, etc. I tried importing a PSD file to see if I could get it working the same as it does in CSP but to no avail but when i ran into this issue in CSP they had the option “Specify cels” which allows you to assign a frame to a layer with in the animation folder. Does Krita have some thing similar?
I guess to help with a potential manual page here are a few Questions to add to a potential clipstudio list
-
How do you gradient maps?
-
How do you canvas wide gradients?(I’ve figured it out and works smoother than CSP)
-
How do you do Border effects for layers?
-
How do you do figure/geometry/perspective rulers?
-
How do/can you do area scaling(when you use the bucket tool fill and it references other layers but instead of just filling the empty spaces it fills a little under the lineart so there are no weird gaps in print)
-
Shortcuts for switching between drawing in foreground background and transparent (turn any brush into an eraser) I have it set for z foreground x background and c erase/transparent.
-
is it possible to import existing brushes from PS and CSP or to Copy the parameters of a specific brush
-
How do you create new ones and organize them into folders?
-
Is it possible to import audio? learned it can be done partially.
I understand that currently some of these are not possible due to how different both software but these are the daily features I tend to use, I usually search how to do blank using the search function in the CSP site but honestly many users of CSP are a combination of ex PTS users or photoshop users along side with animators so a combination of both guides should cover a lot of the frequent questions, personally one of the weaknesses of CSP is ironically enough they don’t have a proper align tool so you can’t center anything in the current version.
I know about the gradient map one at least:
You can make one by making a group with a white bottom layer and right-clicking the group and adding a filter layer and selecting gradient map.
Alternatively you can use inner glow/outer glow layer style which you can also do for groups. The effects are very different though.
Edit: gradient overlay overlays it over the whole layer, which I’m guessing is not what you meant.
Care to elaborate this? there is layer styles for stroke effect like photoshop.
Using the assistant tool and choosing perspective option from its tool options
You can only import the brush tip, you would have to recreate the parameters
Brush organisations are done via tags. alternatively you can create resource bundles and manage them in resource manager
Yeah its just like the photoshop stroke effect for the layer I use it to create lineart for fine objects like shoe laces.
Does the brushtip work to how they do in Photoshop or like SAI?
And can I copy an existing krita brush to use it as a base for making a new brush?
Is there a page for how the tagging system works?
You can. Just select a Krita Brush go to F5 [Brush editor]
if you edit that brush - you have two option two save it.
Overwrite or Save New Brush Preset.
Just Click Save New Brush preset. Select the icon and name and you have new brush
Thanks for commenting!
about how to convert layers into frames
I’m not an expert on CSP’s animation system, but this is a candidate for a longer article. Krita approaches animation in a somewhat different way than CSP does, you don’t need an animation folder or a separate layers per-frame, because any layer in Krita can have as many animation cells as you want.
I’m biased, but I think that it’s a much more flexible system (and people can correct me if I’m wrong, but I think Krita has support for x/y tweens now as well? I’m not sure what the Curves Docker has support for currently). But it’s probably going to be an adjustment for new users. Starting point for this is probably to take a look at the Animation Docker.
In terms of importing I’ve never done that much importing with Krita so I don’t know if this is exactly what you’re looking for, but apparently there is some support for this? TIL. But see “Importing Animations”, which might potentially be what you’re looking for.
Edit: I can’t find a reference to it in the docs, but I could have sworn Krita recently got support for reusing/linking keyframes as well, which is useful because making an edit to that one keyframe will update every cell using it. Can anyone confirm?
As almost, the information you are looking for, is just one click away, F1 in Krita would bring you automagically to our very well written manual. There you would surely have found:
…wouldn’t you?

F1 in Krita would bring you automagically to our very well written manual
I’ve been using Krita for a while, and I’m embarrassed to admit I didn’t know about this shortcut I’ve always just kept the manual bookmarked.
Nearly every software uses F1 for Help, and because I’m a person who checks out every “knob”…
…you can imagine the rest, can’t you?

Can someone make a google document and start with the draft for this page? I can help with commiting it to the repository and publishing it. You can take a hint from existing pages for other software here - Introduction Coming From Other Software — Krita Manual 5.0.0 documentation
You can use layer styles for this - Layer Styles — Krita Manual 5.2.0 documentation
The tip is a png file it works like any other software. you have to recreate the preset using this tip.
For further questions can you make separate topics so that this feature request topic doesn’t get converted into a support topic.
otoh, using the fine answers here could contribute to making the document.
Yes I thought about that too. but then the thread will be very long and it will be not be search and seo friendly.
Yes you can.
