An iOS app that assists painting by generating accurate perspectives of objects

As a painting enthusiast, I have found that many objects in my paintings are not very accurate in terms of perspective. Therefore, I have developed an app that can generate accurate 3D perspective views of buildings, as well as mountains and rocks. Its accuracy is almost the same as that generated by 3D software, which is very useful for assisting painting. It has now been launched on the app store. I wonder if I can recommend it to everyone here.

While the Resources > Plugins category is mostly for Krita-Plugin’s I think it is okay to have a standalone application posted here if it is helpful and does not violate any of our other forum rules (like being AI).

I am pleased to recommend the app ā€œData to 3Dā€ to everyone. This app generates 3D perspectives by inputting the size and position information of objects, with an accuracy equivalent to 3D software. Objects can be rotated locally, and images can be saved or shared for further processing in software such as Krita. This way, the objects you draw will have no problems in perspective. I hope everyone can try it out and give suggestions. If you think it is good, you can recommend it to other painting enthusiasts

So, could you please let the cat out of the bag and tell us the name and website of your tool so that we have a chance to evaluate it? Because everything I found so far under the name Data to 3D was heavily about / using generative AI.

And if you ask yourself what we tolerate regarding the use of AI, you can read it up yourself. Here, for instance, in a short and human-readable form:

And in the shape of a legal text in, our Content Standards, as a part of our Terms of Service, are very important in this regard. But you should at least remember the latter text, since you just agreed to these rules when you registered on the forum and promised to follow them in the future.

This app is not generative AI, although it somewhat resembles it. All the code was written by me, and it did not integrate with any large models. It requires precise input of the dimensions and positional information of various objects, rather than just vague text descriptions. From this perspective, it is similar to 3D software.

You should change the title of the topic to something more descriptive because as it is now, no one is going to find this or know what it’s about. ā€œApp for assisting paintingā€ could be pretty much anything from Blender to a photo viewer. Additionally you have to link to the app’s download page or repository so people can actually find and use it.

If you’d like to test it, grab it here:

Feedback welcome—enjoy!

How useful this may be? An iPad app as a companion software for a program that does not run on iOS …
… okay, at least a few users also own an iPad …

It can be installed on iPhone and iPad. I will continue to upgrade and provide more features. I hope to provide suggestions. Thank you!

And it costs money… Unbelievable. In what world can this be used? If I have a PC and a Krita, I’ll just open Blender. Why would I need some paid app for iOS? Why would I even need an iPhone in the first place?

It is what I thought from the very beginning without speaking it out loud, someone searching for another channel to make money.

This app can also be downloaded from the Mac App Store, and you can use it even without an iPhone. What I want to say is that my app is easier to use. You can save the generated objects as images, import them into a layer in Krita, and then process them. If you use Blender to generate perspective views of objects, you will need to learn Blender (which is a medium-sized 3D software), and the operation may be more complicated (this is just my personal opinion). Of course, the effect may be better for complex objects. For painting enthusiasts who do not know how to use Blender, using my app can also generate accurate perspective of objects (or perspective of object contours), as accurate perspective of objects is crucial for painting works.

Perhaps it has this value. The effect that this app can achieve, this was previously done in Java and roughly processed using 2D software. Now I have rewritten it as an iOS app. This may have reached the perspective level of 3D software.

So you’re telling us about a Mac app and sending us a screenshot from Windows? You made a parody of SketchUp in Java there.
At least send a video of your application. Maybe you’ve really figured out how to do it more conveniently, faster. Maybe then you can convince us to buy a Mac. Maybe.

Java programs are written in Eclipse on Windows, while iOS app are written in Android Studio and XCode on Mac virtual machines. The code has been rewritten and Kotlin Multiplayer has been used. Publishing Android applications is quite complicated (it’s not easy to register an account here), so I’ll release iOS app first. Do you think this is close to the level of Sketchup? Are you using a Windows system?

I added the payment-required tag. Due to a configuration mistake, the resource tags weren’t available for the Resources > Plugins category before.

Please excuse me, you don’t have to convince me since I once trained as a technical draftsman, I would quickly create such scenes in CAD and then save them in a format that I can open in Blender, so that I can then use the Krita plugin: Blender Layer - Live 3d View in Krita to freely rotate and align my model. Well, I think you can guess the rest!

In the absence of any desire to pay money for something that I don’t really know will meet my needs, and considering the fact that there are free options available to me that are proven and capable of achieving at least what you say your tool is capable of, I don’t think I’ll be becoming your customer.

And then there’s something else that makes me very skeptical.
Actually, every provider of a commercial product that I have found trustworthy so far has laid their cards on the table from the outset. In other words, the providers have said what it is, presented their product, shown pictures or even videos, said that it costs something, and sometimes even how much it costs.

And almost every provider who beat around the bush from the start and from whom you had to extract information from with a corkscrew about something they obviously wanted to make money, because they only made hints instead of saying what was going on, didn’t have much to offer.

However, I must add that this application appears to be powerful based on the images, but they are only images.

Furthermore, I find the creation of objects via text input daunting. 35 years ago, we already had CAD software that was easier to use. I would call up the basic shapes, i.e., spheres, tubes, cubes, etc., from a library and adapt them to my ideas if the objects to be created were not standard parts that could be used unchanged (select, insert, done).

I honestly don’t know how to rate this, so I’ll leave the rating to the users, but I wanted to at least express my skepticism. And the price of the application is at least not likely to ruin anyone financially (unless there are ā€œin-app purchasesā€ lurking in it to drain your purse).

From a certain perspective, I can understand your point of view, but inputting data to generate 3D objects is at least one way, and perhaps you will find this method to have its advantages in the future.

The app has been upgraded and i hope to provide feedback, thanks!
