Beam

beamtown_v3

Since I’ve been working on Krita’s animation tools for the last month, I’ve been trying to practice animation a bit in my spare time. Here’s a random rough cut of some kind of energy beam ripping across a town. Animated mostly in 3s, for no good reason other than to save time.

Edit: Oh yeah. Feedback and suggestions are always welcome. =]

Nice stuff. Hope you get some more inbetweens in there as it’s a nice piece for a portfolio.

Nice! It could be cool if the smoke settled behind!

It’s great, obviously the smoke needs to continue growing. Tell us more about your work on the tools, are you a developer?

Thanks, how exciting. I would just say that improving the basics of hand drawn frame by frame animation workflow remain the goal, and not getting side-tracked implementing compositing and editing features, which animators will do outside of their drawing package anyway.
I’m aware that professional animation studios use timing sheets and other things that people like me don’t, so implementing that stuff into the work-flow is important if Krita is to be used on bigger projects with large teams.
I don’t know enough about animation to offer serious suggestions though.

Thanks! Since I can only animate in my free time right now I’m torn between adding more frames and just starting a new practice piece.

Right now I’m lucky enough to work professionally as a programmer on Krita. My focus right now is improving Krita’s animation tools. =]
