Hello. I’m having a lot of trouble configuring keyboard shortcuts and canvas input settings. I’m trying to bind the Z key to zoom mode, but once I do, the program closes/ crashes upon pressing Z. I’ve tried removing every single keybind in canvas input settings and keyboard shortcuts, but the issue persists and I’m not sure why.
I am using a windows 11 laptop paired with a Huion Tablet, Kamvas Pro 16. The version of Krita I am using is 5.3.2.1

This particular crashing situation has been seen before.
Try using Mouse Button: Z+left-button instead of Keyboard Combination: Z.
This bug has been fixed in the Plus and Next versions but you still need to use key+left-button for Zoom/Rotate to work.

No. It’s a mouse button input.
With a stylus on a graphics tablet, you don’t need to press a physical button because the left-button pressed signal is generated automatically when you touch the stylus to the tablet and move it.
It’s the same situation for the Rotate canvas input settings too.
‘Out of the box’ with the default Canvas Input Settings, Rotate and Zoom work fine with the stylus on a tablet.
I’m afraid that I’m still a bit confused by this. Might you know how to set up Kitra so that holding a button on my tablet paired with dragging the stylus makes it so that I can zoom in and out? Same with rotate and pan around with different buttons, just the same mechanic.
The usual/default canvas input settings are all Mouse Input:,
Pan: Space + left-button
Rotate: Shift+Space + left-button
Zoom: Ctrl+Space + left-button
all being held while mouse/stylus movement occurs (no need to hold any ‘left-button’ with a stylus.
Those key combinations can be anything you like provided there is no clash with keyboard shortcuts or with other canvas input settings.
To use the tablet buttons to do this, you need to go into the tablet settings/configuration utility and map three of the tablet buttons to Space, Shift+Space and Ctrl+Space then use those with a stylus touch-drag.
I don’t know Huion tablets but the Huion Windows setup/config utility will certainly have the facility to do that. I’d be amazed if it didn’t.
If you want anything other then Space or Shift+Space or Ctrl+Space then you’ll need to change the canvas input settings (taking care to avoid or eliminate existing keyboard shortcut use and existing canvas input settings use). Then you can set the tablet buttons to map to whatever you’ve set up in the canvas input settings.
However, I can’t think of a reason why you’d want to use anything other than Ctrl/Shift + Space as the mapping, unless you’re already using Space for something ‘special’ and you don’t want to stop doing that.
The reason I was trying to change the keybinds in Krita instead of on my tablet itself is because I also frequently use Ibis paint, and the keybinds in Ibis are Z to zoom, space to pan, and R to rotate (all holding the button while dragging the pen). Panning works as normal in Krita with my tablets keybind.
That is because the krita canvas input setting for Pan is Mouse Input: Space + left-button and that particular tablet button is set to Space.
So, if you want to use Z for Zoom then you need a canvas input setting for Zoom as Mouse Input:
Z + left-button and set the tablet button to be Z.
Similarly to use R for Rotate.
As I said, I don’t know Huion tablets but they should have the facility to create an ‘application profile’ so that for each application you use, the tablet driver will detect the application in use and modify all the tablet settings/configuration to be something different from other applications for that detected application.
However, you can use R and Z in the way that you want if you make sure they are set up in the krita canvas input settings as I described and you make sure there are no clashes in the keyboard shortcuts or in the other canvas input settings. Then map two tablet buttons to R and Z in the tablet config/setup utility for use as Rotate and Zoom controls.
It’s all doable, you just have to set it up in krita and in the tablet.
