Black-crested Titmouse [WIP]

This is literally my second time digital painting and using Krita, and so feel free to judge my (probably horrible) technique.

Yes, i’m suffering from the white-background problem, and unfortunately the ‘stick’ isn’t drawn yet, because I work unprofessionally like that :sob:

This is very far from my regular traditional style(I prefer thin, defined lines and cross-hatching) but I was aiming for a… watercolour-y look I suppose?

I literally cannot draw bird eyes. Someone call @/kacart for me.

I’m open for feedback, I think I need it badly.

Good start!
@kacart should see this!

I’m also very new to digital painting. And my regular style is similar to yours I think. Eons ago I loved to use thin strokes with an ink pen. Discovering Krita even made me buy an “extra glove” for tablets.
Since my first enthusiasm has cooled down a bit I decided not to dive deeper into Krita (I hope I won’t be kicked out of this forum for saying that). Instead I started exploring the features of Xournal++. I think this suits my needs of re-animating an old hobby better.
So … you asked for feedback … here you are :slight_smile:

Nice start! Will be following along. Nice highlight in the eye!

I probably have to go fix those eyes. The eye-ring is odd-looking, and the eye itself is far too dewy- anyone have any tips?

Check out the discussion we have been having here, it might relate to your bird drawing, but not so much to your style…

No, that’s actually pretty close to my style. Thanks!

John Muir’s videos have been great so far. In my opinion, just keep going and finish the whole thing off and work on refining the details later. To me it looks like you understand the shape of the bird already, just indicate the feather layers with a few strokes (if that’s what you’re going for).

This video from John really helped me with that: Drawing Birds-Suggesting Detail without getting lost in the feathers (video workshop) • John Muir Laws
