Description of the issue (you can include screenshots):
Hi there, this issue is an extension of a previous problem which can be found at
The problem described involves the brush tool creating a series of circles attached by lines instead of the expected smooth line. (For me) This occurs when switching between clicking the screen with the mouse and drawing on the screen with my pen. In that forum above ^ user “tiar” suggests using a user support link to troubleshoot the issue.
After fiddling around with some settings and reboots I was unable to solve the problem however I was able to collect some information. Here is a google drive folder which contains a video displaying the problem and a copy of the tablet log. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1qTHM-_X3pG1Ru2xbL0qeMphAtqBMUzP-?usp=sharing
For reference, the bold thick lines are drawn with the mouse, the thin lines with circles and thin line are drawn with the pen. By using the “tablet event logging” feature I noticed that the circle line problem occurs when “Touch Update” is involved in the tablet log. When this text isn’t included in the tablet log, the pen works as expected with a smooth line. Ideally I should be able to draw with my pen without having to open the sketchpad in brushes (the only temporary solution I could find) and be able to switch between mouse and pen without having the circle problem. Any assistance or guidance is appreciated
Have you just started using krita (with version 4.4.2) and had this problem immediately, or have you used it for a while with no problems until this started to happen?
Visually, that looks very like a problem that has been seen many times before.
You’re using the Basic-5 Size brush preset and you’re getting what look like sudden increases in size due to increases in the received pressure signal.
I suspect that if you used Basic-2 Opacity then you’d see regions of greater opacity in the stroke.
Have you tried Settings -> Configure Krita -> Tablet settings and switched from Wintab to Windows Ink?
I’m assuming that it’s set to Wintab and that your Surface Book uses Windows Ink.
I don’t know what “Touch Update” means. Is your Surface Book screen sensitive to finger touches as well as stylus touch?
If it is, can you try turning that off, if possible?
Many people use the Surface Book and krita with no problems so it must be something in the settings, either in krita or on the Surface Book side.
Hi there, thanks for your reply
I have tried everything you suggested in order and have found a solution
From Settings (Windows Computer) → Devices → Pen and Windows Ink, there is a tick box called “Let me use my pen as a mouse in some desktop apps”. By ticking this box, the issue was fixed and I could change between clicking and drawing without problems. A screenshot will be included in this message and also added to the drive folder incase anyone else encounters this problem
I have a semi-vague memory of someone finding that solution for a Surface Book some time ago.
Thank you for posting the screenshot - that will be very useful for anyone having the same problem.
People usually call them ‘blobs’ so I’ve changed your topic title a little to give a better chance of hits during searches.
