Change in policy for topics related to generative AI tools on Krita-artists

In support of artists and artists’ copyright protection, the Krita-artists.org forum admins, moderators and the Krita team – after a discussion – have arrived at the decision that we will no longer allow posts that promote AI tools. This includes plugins whose objective is to add generative AI to Krita. For that reason, several topics will be removed from the forum and any future topics will be deleted.

Users can post contents referring to AI while having a discussion about AI, but the forum will not be open for topics which contain AI generated images in the artwork section nor posts promoting AI image generating plugins for Krita. We ask our users to flag any AI content of this nature.

Making this change aligns the forum with the stance the Krita team has taken since AI image generators first showed up on the internet. We want to be clear that the Krita team doesn’t support AI in its current state.

Disallowing these topics will in no way prevent plugin developers from continuing their work. They are free to promote and develop plugins for Krita, We just don’t want to be a part of it.

We hope you will understand why existing topics have been removed and we ask our members to help us in future by supporting this decision. AI images were always disallowed but we regret having allowed posts about AI plugins and see it as an error that we needed to correct.

We will be updating our terms of service and rules to reflect this. Once we update the terms, we will notify our members through this forum.

fully support this.

NGL I thought this was the policy since the beginning, but I guess I did see a SD plugin around here.

You’re doing the right thing. AI in its current state is built upon theft and disrespect. Thank you for defending the rights of artists.

Thank your for taking that stance. This reaffirm my though that Krita and it’s community are the best out there. AI never had and never will have it’s place in art.

This is the right decision, it is the only way to go or else we’d wind up swamped with all things AI. Almost overnight other art sites became populated with sickly slick AI content and were impossible to look at. Most introduced filtering as a solution.
Thanks for making a choice in favor of humans.

Glad to see good ol human art being stood up for. Honestly all this reminds me of a game I love where robots have taken over and you play as a young artist. That world is overcome with AI art and they want a human artist to create art with the ‘human flair’. Glad to see steps to that not becoming a reality.
