Since the update, the colorize mask seems to broken for me at least. When I click the edit key stroke icon off and on, the visibility of the strokes I made never show up.
Which update do you mean?
The current formal release is 5.1.5.

im actually unsure as i use the steam version

The situation with 5.2 on Steam is interesting and confusing:
Why Krita in Steam shows 5.2.0?
Version 5.2.0 has not been formally released yet and is still having bug fixes applied.
It would be useful if you can download the Nightly Stable build for Windows from here:

and try that. (I’m assuming that you use Windows.)
Extract the .zip file into a folder then run the krita.lnk file that will be in the extracted folder.
Then see if it has the same problem that you’ve seen on Steam.
An announcement will be made on this forum when 5.2.0 is formally released for general use. This is hoped to be in the very near future.
I also encountered the same result as the OP on Krita5.2.0 / MacOS Mojave.
(Ofcause I used key stroke drawing by Colorized Mask Tool)
But It not work preview on/off of KeyStroke and Show Output.
Therefore, once I turn off the display,it wont be able to see the KeyStrokes that drawn so far.
The same goes for “Show Output” toggle.
Try it for about one hours,Get out of the problem by toggling the layer’s eyeball button.
All view can display again,but that’s not the solution.
I take some screen cast for sharing to everyone.
(Note: Flashing occurs in the GIF animation, but it cause by color reduction process of converting MOV to GIF format.)
The Krita version that my using is officially released v5.2.0.
It isn’t steam version,and Install by dmg file.
