Editing/Creating a brush with darker edges than the center?

Hi everyone!
I’m currently diving deeper into Krita’s features, and I’d like to explore the brush editor in more detail.
Up until now, I haven’t really edited brushes — I’ve only skimmed through the options.

What I’d like to do today is create a brush where the edges are darker than the center. I believe I came across the term “overline brushes” to describe this kind of effect.

How should I go about creating a brush like that? Are there specific brush tips, blending modes, or settings I should look into?

I made a rough sketch of what I’m trying to create :

If you want to dive into the fun of brush creation, I can, no, I have to, recommend to you the series of videos on the topic created by @RamonM, currently I don’t know a more comprehensive guide into brushes and the way to create them yourself as this series!

For the kind of brush you want to create, you may try it with a masked brush, where you probably want to use a mask of a different size than the main brush tip. Maybe it is worth to download and inspect the so-called hollow or outline brushes you can find in the sub-category Brushes and Bundles of our Resources category:

By the way, this kind of brushes can also be found in a few bundles.

Oh, awesome! Thanks for the video link — I’ll follow this tutorial series then!
My goal is to learn how to use the editor and eventually create my own custom brushes, so this seems perfect.
Thanks again for your advice — I’m diving into the first video right now, haha!
