Erase along edge brush

this brush is usually found in CSP. but it would be nice to have it in krita as well, since it would make the process of coloring an artwork much faster.

I don’t think you get faster in colouring if you have this feature. I find it much faster to use the fill brush, but that’s just a preference.

I also would not restrict this behaviour to the erasers, but for brushes in general to be reference layer aware. So you would not come into the situation, where you have to erase the paint from outside the lines in the first place.

Also please be aware, that the performance of brushes, which consider the reference layer, will decrease.

This is just anti-overflow with an eraser, cf. Proposal: Anti-Spill/Anti-Overflow Option for the Brush Tool . It makes more sense to make a feature request and vote for an anti-overflow feature in general.

For developers/contributors: this anti-overflow feature exists in Drawpile, with the code available under an appropriate license, so it could conceivably be ported to Krita. Although it’s not too hard conceptually, each brush dab basically just does a magic wand selection constrained by the area of the dab and then the dab gets masked by that selection.

What is a reference layer in CSP? Krita doesn’t have that concept, does it?

It’s the same idea as the “reference” option in the flood fill tool in Krita. You can refer to color tags there, so those are your reference layers, which may be different than the layer you’re filling on.

I was thinking about this csp eraser brush and thought it’d be nice to have it on krita. You have my vote !

this is a feature that i would kill for! the nature of my lineart makes it hard to use the tools provided by krita to efficiently save time for coloring, so i end up wasting too much time even with the help of the shape fill tool.
hopefully the developers could look into adding an anti-overflow option to some brushes at least. or even having its own dedicated tool!
