Description of the issue: When I try to open the application, I get a message saying something like “unable to access brush tip metadata, Krita will close shortly.”
I really don’t know what to do. I was installing the program on a new computer. I had opened it and it was working fine, I tried to export my settings and brushes that I had previously on my old PC, and when I did that and closed and reopened the program, this message appeared. I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program several times, but nothing works. I use Krita every day for my university work and my personal projects. I’m desperate🥹
When you exported your settings and brushes, exactly how did you do that? Did you import backups of your brush files using the import button? Or did you go into your file manager and try to copy files from one system to the other?
Hii, I tried to follow some instructions I read on reddit, I went to Settings - Manage Resources, click “open resource folder” and it opened this directory: C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\krita then I copied all the files of my old PC and placed them on a usb, I downloaded Krita on my new PC, open it, then went to the same place and pasted the files
I think I fixed it!! I went to the exact path and erased all the files and it finally opened!!! but sadly I could not import any of my old brushes or configurations ;(
To transfer resources (brushes etc.) and the configuration you need the krita files from roaming and local.
Maybe the below thread gives you an idea.
Futhermore: There seems to be an issue in the current Krita version that causes errors if Krita can’t find a resource (e.g. a brush) in the file system which is listet in the database.
So, on top to the information in the linked thread:
Stop Krita.
Delete the Krita files in local and roaming on your new PC (like you did already)
Copy the Krita related content of local and roaming from your old PC to your new PC:
Go to the roaming folder
Delete the file resourcecache.sqlite
Start Krita
EDIT:
If your username for the new PC is different from your username of the old PC, you need to alter one file in your local folder.
That ought to read, “Copy the Krita related content of …”
The ‘local’ folder will have a file called ‘kritarc’ in it.
If the username of the new PC account is different from the old PC account then an edit of a particular line will need to be made to the contents of ‘kritarc’.
This can be done by editing with any text editor on the following line of kritarc:
