I would love to have the feature from Photoshop: When you hold shift+click it draws a line from the last stroke-position with the current brush. It’s like connecting dots with each shift+click.
Currently only “v” is the shortcut for the line tool, but it’s not the same.
OK: Please don’t suggest me to something similar or the various line or polygon tool. I’m aware of them and it’s not what I need.
It is possible to do something very similar in Krita:
Under Preferences > Canvas input settings > Tool invocation you can create a shortcut that can be used for the line tool while using the brush tool. Create a new shortcut with Mouse Button, which gives you the option to set a hotkey plus a mouse button. Pick a button + left mouse key and set it to the action “activate line tool”. Normally the shift hot key is set to change the brush size, but I believe you can change this under Primary setting.
EDIT: One difference with the line tool is that you click to set the start point, than keep it pressed and drag it to the end point, then release. The big benefit of this, is that it is pressure sensitive.
What is not the same? It works the same for me as in PS at least as the PS worked years go. Something changed about the line tool?
If you don’t like pressure sensitivity for the line just select the line tool and in tools options uncheck sensor then your “v” will work without taking pressure into account.
Hold shift while “v” to lock at 45 angles.
I know, and it’s not what I want. I use v to draw a line already, but I want to point click point click, and not having the need to set the starting point everytime, makes a huge difference. I don’t need pressure sens.
PS: the extra click and hassle to set the starting point is exactly why I request this feature
It’s not “v” line tool, in PS it’s more of a “mode” of simply connecting successive single clicks with a line, no pressure sense of course, but drawing lines quickly having to set the starting point each time adds like 50% more time to do it.
Well, you could use the polyline tool for that, which gives you the click click way of making repeated lines. Personally I find this line tool much more useful than PS, which might give me faint gradation lines depending on the brush.
Not it’s too cumbersome to use to draw lines, I want to stay in the flow, that’s why I request this feature. I’m aware of all the ways to draw lines in Krita.
Just cruising by…
I also would enjoy such feature.
Also another one: being able to stay in an orthogonal mode would be huuuuge… (like keep shift pressed and know you will only do freehand straights. Without having to set up infinite or parallel rulers, enabling disabling them and their preview guides etc.
Just oh I need a straight horizontal → shift and freehand…in the case of v, i would also have to shift (which feels like slowing down) and the preview would not be instant)
When you start using this shift+click-technique, it is very convenient and it’s hard to go back. And the current “v”-feature feels very tiresome and crude. As a former (still at work) Adobe-user, it really helps with the workflow.
I wont say that the “v”-technique is unuseful - on the contrary, it has it’s good sides too. Like it’s easy to define brush pressure - which I don’t think the shift+click can handle.
But that aside, I really vote for this to be implemented as an alternative for drawing straight lines.
I agree with your request. Sometime is better to draw line without dragging and just by clicking.
We do have a line tool , how do we add this mode along with the current one. May be add a different modifier. I am just throwing of ideas.
I see, I completely forgot that was a thing in PS. I actually found myself number of times wanting this too hehe :0.
Polyline or whatever tool it is has similar functionality, perhaps it could be used to extend the line tool. Though I have no idea if the code is compatible at all.
Thank you, but this is not what I am after. Just like Soma I know about those but I am looking for something seamless with a freehand flow.
and I also am looking a second thing: a way to draw freehand orthogonal lines like hold shift and draw and it’s straight.
