Houston, I don't understand the selection tool

Hi,

When I use the “Contiguous Selection Tool” and put a transparency mask, I can see that some pixels (big patches) are kind of half selected as they become half transparent after a adding a transparency mask from selection.

How can I cancel this behavior => I mean that I would like that those half transparent pixels become fully transparent

Just for comparison when I use the similar tool in GIMP I do have a full transparency about the selection after applying a mask,
Please forgive me, I come from GIMP, so I still have a lot to learn  about Krita, and I don’t see any option to do that type of selection

So do I

So do most of us

Please see this topic:
Anti-aliasing + Fuziness in Contiguous Selection tool is causing huge area to be selected as semi-transparent pixels

Summary: turn anti-aliasing off in the Tool Options docker.

Thanks a lot @AhabGreybeard Great help :+1:

If it can help some one about sharp edges…
Because of the anti-aliasing unchecked, we now have very pixelated edges when we use the contiguous selection tool to select as a block (to not have half patched alpha selection problem),
First I did tried to blur the mask, it’s not good enough (it’s bleeding everywhere :face_vomiting: )

My solution was after making a selection with the anti-aliasing OFF (unchecked) I put a transparency mask (that mask has rough edges),
then I use the "contiguous selection tool on THAT mask with anti-aliasing ON (checked) feathering and growing sliders around 1 to 2 pixels, then once selected, I go back to the original layer then I apply a new transparency mask (and delete the first one)

I’ve got a way smoother edges that way and it kinds of simulate anti-aliasing, It’s a bit cumbersome (no so, though, I can use to it) but it will do a way better job than only selecting without anti-aliasing and applying just a mask
