How can I change S Pen shortcuts?

Please, I’m on Samsung Glaxs Tab S7+, does anyone know if there’s a way to change the keyboardshortcuts without an actual keyboard, please? When I press button for the input to set a shortcut I can’t really do anything.

Does anyone please know if there’s a way to change shortcuts? I’d like to change shortcuts for the s-pen button and set it to erase mode but so far I’ve been unsuccessful.

Thank you very much.

Hi @nickgeneratorfailed - Yes, you can change shortcuts. The gesture and pen settings are found within Canvas Inputs.

Krita sees the eraser end of your stylus as a second stylus tip. You need to select one of the eraser brush presets for that end of the stylus. Krita will remember which one you selected.

If you absolutely want to switch the blending mode of your current brush to erasing mode by using the shorcut E, you can use one of the buttons on your stylus (I don’t have an S Pen, I’m only assuming it has buttons). You would do that through your device settings.

I’m pinging @CrazyCatBird as they might have more to offer on this.

(PS - I moved your topic out of the post where you originally added it. When you need assistance, please make a separate post for it)

I can’t remember at the moment. The way I did the SPen button was done following a YouTube tutorial from another user here. I’ll look that up…

Gestures I found but pen settings for the s-pen I can’t change in Krita without having a keyboard (to assign it something) and with a tablet (mobile device) I don’t have a keyboard. S-pen doesn’t have eraser at the end so that’s also not going to do anything for me unfortunately.

There’s one more thing, s-pen gestures, would someone know if they are supported already in Krita or not? I enabled them for Krita in settings and turne them on in my tablet, they are also in s-pen shortcuts inside krita but it doesn’t work for me for some reason. I ready they might not have been implemented or something in the previous post though?

@CrazyCatBird Thanks a lot, just out of curiosity have you also figured out the s-pen air actions for krita or is that currently not working, please?

This might be a silly question from me but have you tried tapping on the eraser icon at the top of the screen to invoke eraser mode? That’s what I do on my tablet.

Here’s the YouTube video that I had followed:

And here’s a discussion about set up:

Yeah but I want to work in canvas mode so that’s not a usable option, if I’m out of it it’s possible but I’d still like to see how to get it to work ;).

@CrazyCatBird thanks a lot, I’ll check it tomorrow after I get some sleep  .

I don’t know if this will be helpful but here’s my canvas-only setup. I allow the menu and toolbars to show and I’ve customized the toolbars to hold my most used tools.

That’s nice but I’m going with just the canvas and that’s why I want the shortcut for the eraser ;), but thanks.

Heh oops, I had it working teh whole time. I just didn’t realize there are two sections insettings related to the shortcuts. First in shortcuts which doesn’t seem to do anything. Then there’s a separate section this time in settings for spen and that’s where you do it. Thanks a lot guys for sticking with me!

While I’m still on the topic, do you know if it’s possible to have the button react when the pen is not touching the surface but close to it? Right now it triggers the finger gesture so I always have to move the pen away from the surface farther so it’s not recognized as a mouse/finger, please?

Yeah, if you only want to trigger the SPen actions menu only, you should hold your pen a bit further from the screen. Otherwise, have your pen closer to trigger the desired shortcut and dismiss the Actions menu.

Maybe someone else (such as @sh-zam or others) might know more.

Well I turned the action menu off. So right now when the pen is near the surface the tablet as always detects it as a cursor but when I press the button it acts as a pan (I assume it triggers a mouse button or finger gesture). It would be nice if there was a distance check like is the pen actually touching the screen then it should trigger the touch gesture (canvas pen in this case) but if it’s away from the screen then just detect the button press and trigger the action/shortcut related to that button.

But I have to say I don’t know much about android development with the pen so I have no idea if there’s some bool flag or something which can check this.

But in other apps it works for me so I assume they found some way to do this.
