Personal opinion: on this forum I’ve noticed something similar in nearly all artworks (including mine): everything looks nice, except for… something is missing. I don’t know, maybe the problem is softness or low contrast or stabilization or whatever, but no matter how detailed the artwork is, I can’t see the same effect as in Procreate artworks. And I want to create something similar to Procreate artworks. Does anyone have some tips or brush packs/add-ons to achieve this?
It sounds like you’re saying if you saw two images made in two different painting apps you would be able to tell which one was made in Procreate. Is that possible?
If you can’t put into words what is missing in your opinion it’s basically impossible to give advice on what you have to do different.
How about works created using the amazing Memileo brushes?
This post has a lot of examples of works done with them:
And here are some excellent examples from that post:
I understand what you mean. Personally I don´t think it´s a question of the program you use, but what you want to paint. If there are a lot of Manga and Anime friends around, the paintings will all have a similar look. If you like comics or Sci-Fi, or whatever, your painting will be effected.
At least most of us are painting in their spare time, as hobby and therefore a free tool, like Krita, is the best choice. Young people - and that´s just an assumption - are most of the users of this tool. Ofcourse they don´t have their own style developed and paint what they like and see every day.
If you go to other pages, which show art, you will get the same problem: most ot the “paintings” look the same. Either created by AI or with a painting program.
Tips to “break” this look alike? You can try to use less color (e,g, just the Zorn-palette black, red, ocker, white), use just one “brush” in one size, try something new (paint in different colors, different style,…).
Hpe this helps and happy painting! ![]()
Thank you all for your replies! I just realised that this question might have been a little rude on my behalf, so I’m really sorry if that’s the case ![]()
Not rude but it’s impossible to answer if you can’t tell us what exactly it is that makes you think Krita artworks are “wrong” or “different”.
it might be a question tha out of the box krita is different. the brush engine has its limitations in krita compared to other programs. it’s not that you cannot make the same look in krita is that it might take a slightly different approach to achieve same result.
I will say I do find some blend brush in krita tends to produce some blur.
I read that this is a technique used by Craig Mullins : so maybe this new brush for example could help
I use both and have no idea what you’re trying to describe. Both Procreate and Krita have tons of different brushes that give very different looks even within themselves. Maybe you’re just describing that the Procreate art you see floating around online is of a higher skill level than the average on these forums?
I ported my favorite Procreate drawing brushes to Krita manually and since I work similarly in both I don’t think it’s really possible for someone else to tell which application I used for each artwork.
More complicated brushes are probably much harder (or maybe impossible) to make an equivalent for (e.g. Procreate’s oil or watercolor brushes), but I’m not positive since I haven’t tried.
