How to apply Pen Settings along Distance relatively

Hi! My question: — is it possible to apply Pen Settings curve of Distance relatively to whole stroke length, not pixels? To dynamically scale it as I draw my stroke. My version 4.4.5

P.S. Also after start of 5.0.0 beta all my settings were lost when I returned to 4.4.5. Is it a bug or intended behaviour?

Hello and welcome to the forum

The Distance control curve is always about the number of pixels travelled by the brush.
It would be impossible to have it proportional to stroke length because the length of the stroke is not known until you’ve finished making it.

The only possibility I can think of is to use the Time control and then do slow strokes or fast strokes.

The Fade control is similar to Distance but is scaled by the brush size.

With 5.0.0, it is recommended that you make a backup of your configuration files and resources folder before you use it, so these can be restored in case of problems going back to 4.x.y.

Do you mean literally all settings were lost or do you mean some particular settings that are of concern to you? Which settings?

In particular I lost saved brushes in Ten Brushes scripts. And panels sizes were reset. And Advanced Color Selector changed to gradients mode, not separated. I had to re-confugure all those.

I just thought of trying Beta for quick and then return.

It would be possible if stroke engine will re-draw whole stroke at every frame. I thought of maybe some super mode that would allow it, not accumulating changes, but re-applying whole stroke dynamically. Yes, that could be slow sometime, but also very useful… At least it could re-apply it after stroke finished.

Also I thought of mode with automatic hidden layering of strokes where I could press key to draw behind last stroke or even press keys to control z-order. And then merge all hidden layers with another keys shortcut.

P.S. Yes, I’m drawing tall grass

I suggest that you report that in this Topic:

As matter of general good practice (and self protection), you should make a backup copy of the configuration files and the resources folder for later restoration in case of any kind of problems.
Krita FAQ — Krita Manual 5.2.0 documentation
(any file whose name starts with ‘krita’)

Resource Management — Krita Manual 5.2.0 documentation
(the folder called ‘krita’)

That would be a major development effort. You could ask for it by making a topic in the Feature Request category but you should read this first:

I personally doubt that it would be accepted but I may be wrong.

Thank you.

As far as I know what drawn with one stroke always kept in separate memory buffer. So it’s not a problem to re-generate this buffer after stroke finished if, for example, Length dependency will be added and activated with 0%…100% range in its curve.

Too bad it’s too hard to seriously request a new feature, as I can see from that doc.
I’ll live without it for now…

Many people have requested new features with no problem and many requests have been accepted and are now implemented.

If it’s as simple a matter as you say then some small discussion for clarification would be needed and there would have to be discussion about the UI changes needed.

Discussion here? Or where?
