Fantastic stuff, thank you so much for joining in and sharing ![]()
In my opinion, the best way to get started is to play around with everyone’s ink brushes like Ramon’s and Gege Akutami, and play with them/their settings (Some more: Rakurri has some great ones, Aurelia too, and there are even some cool default ones like Sumi-e)
If you want even more reference, browse this!
The idea is to make a copy of a brush you like and use it as a template. Eventually you’ll figure out what setting-combo does the thing you want - and before you know it, that editor will be your best friend (૭ 。•̀ ᵕ •́。 )૭
The official Krita channel also has some videos explaining for making them too! (6:05 is when brush editor overview starts btw)
Finally, here’s a link to my own experimental inks (beta). I’ve used the settings to recreate things like:
- splodgyness,
- randomness (like accidental small spatters)
- hard/soft edges depending on pressure,
- size reduction when moving fast
- and other stuff
Try using them as a template with your own brushtips and see if it’s any use for your goals ![]()
✨ Extra rambling about the experimental inks
They were made in an attempt to re-create the beautiful “dye bleed” effect you see when you mix ink and water together, and paint with it. Due to this, they use a brushtip type called a “colour mask” - that’s why no matter what colour you pick, it’s always black.
They haven’t been “officially” released because I still have documentation/pretty icons to do (which takes time), but I made/used them for a commission so they are pretty solid as-is!
