I'm wondering how to create/download this type of grainy shading brush in Krita?

This is a 3:20 minutes long video, could you perhaps mention at which point the brush you’re referring to shows up?

I have seen this guy. He sells a pack of textured brushes that make the interesting effects when shading. They seem to be just textured brushes, nothing more. Here is a link to his pack just to show what they are, as we all know we can’t download them to Krita

Hello @fickledog and welcome to the community!

Do you mean these kinds of grainy brushes?

You can create them easily! I’ll take the b)Basic - 5 Size brush.

Go to the Brush Editor

And change the brush’s density. The lines I did in the first picture are 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, 25%, and 30%, try different percentages and look for what you need. Then I changed the mask type from default to soft.

I went to General > Opacity (on the left side of the Editor) and checked Enable Pen Settings, then I went to General > Size and changed the curve:

Everything I wrote isn’t mandatory. Do what you want with your brushes, try different settings until you find your magical brush!

You’re welcome! Glad I could help

Another question. Do you know how could I make the grain more coarse? Basically increasing the individual particle size.

Maybe by giving a pattern to your brush?

I don’t think you can increase the individual particle size, as it seems to be pixel-sized. So a small canvas will have “big” particles and a big canvas “small” ones.

If a pattern doesn’t help, then maybe try another brush, like that one:

I just took the original first brush and changed the brush tip in the Brush Editor; I clicked on predefined (between Auto and Text), and chose Sc_Scraches3, then in General, I checked Scatter and set the Strength to 30%. Again, try different brush tips (you can even do your own) and different settings until you find what you need!
