Introduce yourself! šŸŽ™ļø

Hello and welcome @HeathG

Would you be able to show us some ā€˜previews’ in a Finished Artwork or a Sketchbook topic?

If you need any advice or opinion or suggestions for improvement and development, there are many artists here who will be happy to spend time doing that.

Let’s give this a go.

You can call me Gray, or GGK. I’m a high schooler who’s currently learning Computer Science and a hobby artist who has been using Krita for 3 years now. I’ve very recently finally started to learn digital painting because I love how traditional oil paintings look.

I’ve been drawing for as long as I can remember but I’m still an amateur. I’ve been into digital art since I was 9 years old but mostly stuck to traditional until middle school. I first started out in Sketchbook Autodesk, then Medibang, Ibis Paint, Infinite Painter and then finally, Krita. I’ve been trying out Clip Studio Paint recently (which I got for free with my Wacom) but for now I’m sticking with Krita since I’m more familiar with it and I love the brushes (also CSP feels cluttered compared to Krita)

My love for art began with a simple drawing of a horse. I used to love horses and would draw them everyday. I loved them so much I thought that I’d never draw humans. When I started watching anime and found many amazing Japanese artists like Kohei Horikoshi and Gege Akutami, I decided to study their work to make my own better. I still can’t decide if I like Gege’s messiness more or Horikoshi’s neatness. Horikoshi has definitely played a huge role in my art journey up until this point. This is a very weeb thing for me to say but I really aspire to be a mangaka :joy:

I love the way traditional paintings look, and I finally began to learn how to paint digitally. I have very little knowledge on the traditional art process compared to digital as it’s been so long since I picked up an actual paintbrush. I once tried to use oil paints that had been lying around for so long, and it didn’t turn out so well.

Hello everyone!
I’ve been an artist since I was very small and I’ve always loved creating worlds and stories and drawing them. I developed an interest in realistic animal art when I was about 9 and I pursued this and developed my skills. On the side I continued to work on my partially cartoony, partially realistic human sketches. It’s quite tricky to describe, but I think the best word for it would be ā€˜character design’.

Anyways, I’ve recently realised that my character design is the thing I’m truly passionate about, and actually have been from the beginning. Though my realistic animal art may be more impressive to some, I do not enjoy it, because for me it’s just copying a reference photo as closely as possible - there isn’t much creativity. And so I have decided to pursue what I really love, designing different characters. I still work on commissions, epspecially of pets, in my realism style, because people really like that and it can really bless them.

I started experimenting with digital art in 2020, but it took me a very very long time to actually develop some skills and get the hang of it. I didn’t realise how different digital art is to traditional - it’s a whole other medium! I only use digital art for my character design, and I used Photoshop up until very recently because my school paid for it - haha!

So for the past few months I’ve been working on my art folio for Design, and like I said, I was using Photoshop. Because I procrastinated, I actually began my final pieces in the week the whole folio was due! So I was frantically trying to get these five final character designs done, and then, devastatingly, Photoshop just stopped working. The brushes just…broke, and they still don’t work! Thankfully I got an extension, but then I had to learn how to use a completely new program (Krita, of course) on the fly to try and complete the pieces. It was very stressful but I managed to get it done! Here are the final five character designs:

And now, because I’m using a laptop, I recently discovered the laptop UI in Krita and the touch docker. It’s very different to what I’m used to but I think it will be really good, because previously if I wanted to use a keyboard shortcut, it would be a laborous process to get the screen keyboard up and type what I needed.

So yeah, I’m looking forward to developing my skills further!

Hello @ochreoatssketches and welcome to the forum and to krita

You can post those paintings in a Finished Artwork topic or a Sketchbook topic if you like.

See these by @Elixiah: Profile - Elixiah - Krita Artists

If you want any help or advice, just create a new topic with an appropriate category and a short descriptive title and ask. You will be answered, probably by quite a few people in a fairly short time.

Hi. My name is (Mr) Yaniv Loran, a Montreal, Canada-based 62-year old KRITA beginner who would like to learn to use the tool but for whom the plethora of YouTube videos out there don’t seem to work. I’m looking for an English speaking tutor/mentor. [email address removed]

 Hello @Yaniv and welcome to the forum!

Sorry, but I can not recommend you any mentors or tutors from your region, because I don’t know them. But I know that there are at least 3 users in the area of Montreal, maybe one of them steps in and offers you her or his support.

In the meantime, I only can recommend to you the best tutorials I know.

Very good are the tutorials from Corinne, here on KA known as @CelticCoco or ā€œBlade & Quillā€ on YouTube, among those tutorials I like, these are those on the top-rank, mainly because they are so calm and informative.
Here you find her channel ā€œBlade & Quillā€, it has lots of good stuff, from a complete Krita course, over tips and tricks to challenges.
Maybe you like her Playlist ā€œHow to paint using Kritaā€?

Also, more than worth a look are the in between a little aged but nonetheless solid tutorials by ā€œThe Age of Asparagusā€?
The Beginner-Course

Or the (even older?) series ā€œLearn Krita with Bob Ross (Updated for Krita 4)ā€:

Additionally (and probably later on, because of their ā€œdensityā€), you may take a look at the videos from @RamonM, made for the official Krita-Channel on YouTube. These are comprehensive tutorials, packed with lots of information.
The official Krita-Channel

These were the tuts I had fun with and learned from.

And as a last tip, and this is no joke, there is also a very special series meant for Kids I haven’t mentioned so far even because it is for kids, but if you can ignore that these videos are addressed at kids, and maybe have a learning disability or ADHS/ADHD, then these can be great, because the vids are short and well explained, not too technical and good to grasp.
35-part Krita course for kids, but I think not only suitable for children:

Even I didn’t need them anymore at the time I discovered that series for kids, I had a lot of fun watching the whole series.

So, sorry for not recommending tutors to you, but maybe you ā€œcan connectā€ to one of the authors, like their style to explain Krita in their own way, and their tutorials help you find your way ā€œinto the world of Kritaā€.

And if you may have any questions round about Krita, that is what this forum is meant for and dedicated to, to ask and get support, then feel free to ask us your questions. Usually this works!

Woow … I like your journey. Your character designs are nice and i know with more practice they are going to be great… I totally recommend you to get deeper into krita because as an illustrator who has used both software’s all i can say is that the result is the same and the amazing fact is that krita is free meaning you wont have to use pirated software anymore as krita provides what the best illustration software’s also provide at a free cost.

Though over time i recommend artists to support krita by funding it on the link below,

Hope you enjoy krita to the fullest and i am open to making friends.

Hi there. I’m a retired engineer who always liked to draw and paint. But with work and kids and house I hadn’t really done much in decades. So as a retirement gift to myself I bought a display tablet. It’s great–no setup–no cleanup–and can erase and undo painlessly. Eventually I found this awesome program called Krita…so here I am.

Hello @Kevin_Manion and welcome to the forum

Whatever questions you have, or help or advice you need, just create a new topic with a suitable title and category then ask. Someone will come along and answer.

Hey people, what’s up?

You guys can call me Alien and I’m just a hobbyist artist for now, but I plan on making it my entire career. I am currently trying to learn pixel art and animation for a personal project that is still in the early stages of being made. For a while I had been trying to find a software that would be simple enough to use on my laptop then wouldn’t you know it, I find Krita, and here we are. I’ve been able to figure out some of the basics to Krita but I’m still a bit new to it, I am also trying to adjust to using a Huion that was recently bought for me.

The high school I am enrolled at offers an academy that provides CTE courses covering Digital Media Foundations, Video Production, and Advanced Media Arts. They have paid for and also will be teaching, if not all than most of the Adobe programs, like Illustrator, Photoshop, and Animate! Coming from a small town in California that isn’t quite popular as big cities like Los Angeles or Fresno, this could be big for my future, as I also plan on possibly working for Adult Swim or maybe even Cartoon Network.

My journey had first started when I was introduced to Cartoon Network’s Steven Universe, from there forward I’ve had nothing but love for art and everything it has to offer. You could say that character design has been my favorite thing about being able to create art, developing these diverse and complex characters has always been enjoyable for me. I typically stick to the traditional route when drawing but sometimes Procreate or IbisPaintx are in the cards.

I hope that joining this community I can better improve my skills (with some help) in art! I am still trying to figure things out career and education wise but am open to any recommendations on what to do once I reach the point of graduation ^^

Thanks for reading all of this and happy drawing!
