Hi everyone! I just noticed that I have never introduced myself!
For those who don’t know me, my name is Fern Gadd and I’m a retired airbrush artist living in central Florida, USA. I love nature and animals. Especially cats, dogs and horses. My husband and I travel a lot and take lots of photos of our adventures, which I frequently use as painting references.

40 yrs of airbrushing caused severe carpal tunnel in my right hand, so a friend introduced me to digital art in 2020, where it was much easier to hold a stylus. I started out with Krita software and I’ve been hooked ever since. I’m proficient in CorelDraw, which I still use for vector designs to cut vinyl, but I prefer Krita for creating art.

It’s so addicting… I paint nearly every day. I joined this group, and really enjoy associating with my fellow artists!!

@raghukamath Thank you!
No, I was not aware of the sister open source Inkscape. Do you have a link for it?

Hej!
So… Introductions… I hope I’m replying to the right thread, this forum is confusing on my phone. I really should try it on the laptop… Anyhow. I’m Zab, Zabbio or Zabina… Some type Zap for some reason, I dunno…

I’m currently taking a remote university course in arts, an extra course for art teachers. Oh, right, I’m a teacher in visual arts in a public school, grades 1-9. Don’t let that make you assume I know what I’m talking about though, I feel like my brain does it’s best to emulate fiftyeleven open tabs with music streaming somewhere and sudden pop-up ads for hyssop trying to distract me…
Anyhow, in this course I’m taking we got an assignment which reminded me that it was a while since I painted digitaly. So I dug out my old laptop, found it was still working under a layer of dust and noticed that Krita 3 wasn’t the latest version anymore… Updated it, lost all brushes of course (but honestly I’m surprised my old computer even runs with it) and then a couple of hours later somehow got most brushes back. So now I’m halfway through painting a parafrase of Alexandre Cabanels ā€œFallen Angelā€ where the angel is a freshly graduated art student in a few years from now who can’t get a job because all introduction jobs are replaced by AI.
I’m not sure if I’m allowed to post it here when it’s done though, since I did use AI generated images for the background (because assignment and purpose). I read somewhere that ai is not appreciated, for good reason. But I can make more paintings and post those instead

I started my digital painting journey with PS7 on a second hand computer. It managed up to 500 pixel wide canvases without lagging too badly :stuck_out_tongue: unless I used too large brushes… eventually I got a wacom volito2 and could leave drawing with a mouse behind. I kept using ps when they sort of released cs2 to be used without a key, I had an imac at the time, but sometime after that I found Krita and frankly I’m not looking back. It’s the one program I prefer, even when I do have access to others.
Now I don’t paint digitally too often anymore. I’m a traditional artist at heart, but my mediums tend to circle around. Maybe it’s time for a digital period again

Hello again Zabbio!

I’m just wondering why you lost your brushes, that should not have happened for all of my understanding, at least the brushes are the same as the brushes in Krita 5. Okay, Krita 5 has more brush engines and knows brushes that Krita 3 can’t handle, but the folder structure is almost the same and brushes and bundles are stored in the same way as back in times of Krita 3.
Do you have used a different user account for your new Krita?

If you are interested to sort this out and probably re-discover your old brushes, in case you have had custom-made brushes you like to get back, you could create a new topic in our Bundles and resources help section of the Support and Advice category, and we try to sort this out and maybe get your brushes back.

Thanks, I have got most back as I like it  my own brushes were unaffected but all standardbrushes were gone and the ones there didn’t work. though I got a lot of new brushes which all were 1px large and just became weird blobs when used larger… So something went wrong. I would like to get rid of them but for now I just assigned a tag to the brushes I use so I don’t have to see the others.
I’m not sure what happened but I googled and found some helpful videos (importing and activating brushes between krita 3 and 4,wasn’t exactly what I did but it’s where I started) and somehow got most regular ones back. Its okay now and I can’t recall exactly what I did  so I don’t know how to even ask.

To get back the Krita 3 default brushes, at least a large part of them, you can select the bundle ā€œKrita_3_Default_Resources.bundleā€ in Krita via ā€˜ā€˜Settings’’ >> ā€˜ā€˜Manage Resource Libraries…’’, and add it to the existing brushes in Krita by clicking on the Activate button

Oops, I should better read twice, you already found it! LOL

Welcome to the Krita forum, @Zabbio.

You’re welcome to post your artwork here but nothing that has AI-generated images in it. You can read the reasons in the Terms of Service, #8.

I understand  I’m not a fan of AI as is either, the art work in question is a critique against it and meant to express a concern about the art world and art buisness now when its here. (school assignments and stuff).

Maybe I’ll block out the background (where the AI images are) to post the rest of the work… (linking to the reference on wikimedia commons as it’s also based on a known artwork, is how it should be done, right?) Though blocking out the background does change the entire concept.
Anyway I don’t want to start by creating trouble so I’ll make sure not to have any AI left if I post it.
Would a link to the speeded up painting process on youtube also break the rule? Since it won’t be hosted on this platform I mean, and the images are not really promoting AI. But I guess it could stir the pot too much.

@Zabbio We don’t link to any AI art.

Feel free to start a new topic for any forum questions you have.

Hello! I am jgShadow - you can call me jg or shadow ^^

I’m new here on the forums but I have been using Krita since 2017. I’m a bit of an introvert even on social media but I do try to go out to put myself out there when I get the sudden surge of confidence haha

I do digital character art and I make webtoons/webcomics as well on Webtoon and Tapas. Occasionally, I do high resolution digital character art that can be used as phone wallpapers for my Ko-fi shop.

My style is influenced by video games and anime/manga. With this, character art is what I’m comfortable in drawing the most ^^ I suck at backgrounds but I do my best to draw them with references ^^

Thank you very much! :grinning:

I’ll check it out! ^^

Hi!

I’m 27 years old and just recently bought a wacom tablet to draw on, although I’ve painted DA for a few years on and off. I’ve used Krita for one or two weeks though, I originally started in ibis paint.

I’m currently getting used to the tablet and I watch plenty of youtube videos both on tips for krita and tips on DA (and speed paint - it’s so satisfying!).

Hope you all have a good day! And I’m happy to be here.

Here’s an artwork of mine that I’m happy with how it turned out!

 Hello @beetroot, and welcome to the forum!

Looks like Totoro has placed some sausages on his belly as a snack and disguised them as fur drawings.
:joy:
I think you did a good job with the little big guy.
