Is there a Line Tool toggle?

Hello!

So I use the line tool a lot when drawing buildings especially. And I have noticed 3 things.

  1. When using holding V there is lag after doing one stroke where you will get a red circle with a strike through it, only after waiting a bit will you get back the precise point. This means using the V hotkey line tool is slow.

  2. There is no toggle option for the line tool. Is this correct? Of course, I can assign a shortcut to the tool but this requires two button presses. Is there any way to create toggles for tools?

  3. Lastly, changing the brush size would be very useful with the line tool, just like you can with the brush tool. Switching to the brush tool and then changing size takes a lot of extra time.

On a side note, I can’t seem to change the V key to the line tool in the keyboard shortcuts. It is instead stuck as a press-and-hold key. Should I report this as a bug?

Thanks for your time.

Hi @Komorebi

  1. I’ve never seen the red circle thing, but is this Windows Ink trying to assert itself? Or, might you have assigned something to V, therefore creating a shortcut conflict? A quick way to verify this is to press ctrl+enter and scroll through all the shortcuts looking for the letter V on the right side of the window. There should be nothing assigned to V.

  2. There is no toggle that I know of, unless you install the plugin called Shortcut Composer. I believe you can call up a pie menu for that tool.

  3. No need to switch to the brush tool to change the line weight. The brush size slider in the toolbar will work while you have the line tool selected. It’s very quick.

Lastly, the v-key toggle is not in Keyboard Shortcuts – it’s in Canvas Input Settings.

Thanks for the reply

I didnt know about ctrl + enter. That is a good tip.

  1. There is no shortcut conflict, I seem to get the red circle when switching tools. windows ink is off in my Wacom tablet settings. I tried recording it but watching it back there is no red circle. which means it is probably a Windows problem. I am not sure how to fix it if that is the case, any ideas?

  2. A toggle would be useful for common tools, but I understand thanks

  3. Thanks, I am aware of the slider. It is much quicker and more precise (because you can see your brush size change) to use shift + click + drag. Would this be a difficult thing to implement for the line tool?

It is not enough to disable Windows just through Wacom preferences: you must disable it completely in the Windows Control Panel (see this topic).

Believe me, I had some very annoying instability issues with this Windows Ink, so I would recommend you look into that first. Who knows, maybe this could be part of the solution to your problem?

I am on windows 11. So i disabled it completely using gpedit. I also reset all my settings and reinstalled Krita. However, I still have the issue.
Here is a video of it: 20240629_092351.mp4 - Google Drive

My new Wacom had Windows Ink enabled and even disabling it through Wacom’s preferences wasn’t enough: I had to go to the Control Panel and disable it completely there. Then it worked.

On Windows 11 those settings are different, and they lead to the wacom app anyway. But regardless I disabled it already by running a windows command. And the problem is still there.
