Krita 4.4.2 beta 2

Hi

Just downloaded beta 2.
I usually have a lot of warning/error at startup, but here I have many new error message:

=> need to execute Krita from console to see messages

Is it normal?

Downloaded last appimage from announcement page

Grum999

I’m not sure if it’s ā€˜normal’ but it’s what I see when I try to run it from the terminal.

Looking at one particular one:
Could not set current file 0 ā€œbrushes/rake_sparse.pngā€

That predefined brush is present and can be used.

I’m not able to do the relation ship between file in error and brush…

I just saw in brushes there’s 5 RGBA brushes added and seems to work, even if file brushes/DA_RGBA bluegreen_small1.png (for example) throw an error in console.

Concerning last error:

Could not remove "/tmp/.mount_kritaqwijI8/usr/share/krita/bundles/RGBA_brushes.bundle" "SystĆØme de fichiers accessible en lecture seulement"
Could not copy the tmp file to the store "/tmp/.mount_kritaqwijI8/usr/share/krita/bundles/RGBA_brushes.bundle" "/tmp/.mount_kritaqwijI8/usr/share/krita/bundles/RGBA_brushes.bundle.tmp" false "Destination file exists"

It seems that krita tries to delete file, but can’t because the appimage file system is mount in read-only mode…

Grum999

rectification: using RGBA brush seems to work, but generate message in console

Accessing uninitialized random source!

I don’t know these brushes, so finally can’t tell if result is expected result

Grum999

If you go to the predefined brushes tab in the brush editor and type ā€œrake_sparseā€ or just ā€œrakeā€, you’ll find it

As you say, everything seems to be there and working excvept that the RGBA 04 Impasto shows that error in the console, so does RGBA 01 Thick-dry.
The other new RGBA brush presets do not show that error.

I think this is one for the developers

Oh ok, I didn’t know this.

yes, I can find the brush tip in list

Grum999

ummm… I just lost couple of files after trying the beta2.

First, it didn’t save the kra file, second some other files (kra and tif) were gone after closing Krita.

Yeah, I have the bad habbit of hard-deleting temporary files - which I did after trying the beta2. But I’m very sure I selected only that one file. Yet several ones were missing then. Fortunately I had a backup, but still… that’s scary! I’m reluctant to try and replicate this though…

New brushes are great btw.

beta are for testing purpose, do not use it for production workflow

Grum999

Heh, yeah! It’s just that betas so far have been very stable for me - guess, I was just getting a bit incautious.

Another thing, which I think was in beta1 already:

Variable sliders in SeExpr now always go from 0…1.0 - i.e. the given parameter range (in the comment) isn’t respected any more. Is this intentional? The original values are still displayed in the edit fields and can be entered there as well. But once the slider is moved, the range goes only between 0 and 1.0.

In 4.4.1 it’s working correctly.

When the Christmas break is over, there will probably be a topic started for formal testing (or is this it? )
So, things to remember and report, soonish.

We’ve been trying to figure out the source of this message but without success. It’s fairly harmless…

Um… Krita really doesn’t delete any file that’s not an autosave file: and autosave files are only removed after user confirmation. I’ve just searched through the source code and there isn’t any code that could do that.

Yes , I recall you saying that before. Yet I’m very sure (like 99% sure) that I didn’t screw up. I’ve done that before, so I’m very cautious now whenever I hard-delete any files. Thanks for checking though - I really appreciate the hard work you’re putting in there! :slightly_smiling_face:

we can make this the formal one

Please report as regression; I think I noticed that too but I didn’t know why it doesn’t want to work with me, and then I discarded it and forgot about it.

Regarding the files, can you maybe check Help → Show Krita log for bug reports and see if those filenames are there? Are you sure they have been saved correctly (have you checked in the folder after they were saved, but before they disappeared, of course)? Do you use OneDrive, Dropbox etc.?

Where would I report this? I guess I can find out… EDIT: I guess you mean the bugtracker - have to look into this.

Regarding the files, can you maybe check Help → Show Krita log for bug reports and see if those filenames are there?

It gives a warning: ā€œThe Krita usage log file doesn’t existā€¦ā€. Could that be because I’m using portable versions?

Are you sure they have been saved correctly (have you checked in the folder after they were saved, but before they disappeared, of course)?

Unfortunately not. I was pretty tired when I did this. I just deleted one(!) kra~ file, then realized several files were gone. Could of course be the <1% chance I screwed up.

Do you use OneDrive, Dropbox etc.?

No, nothing like that.

hi, i’ve found an ā€œissueā€ in the 4.4.2 beta 2 : after selecting a layer, if i pick a color with ctrl key, the 2 squares that appears under the cursor stay on the canvas.

They desappear only if i switch to another layer or if i move the stylus/cursor over it (partially if the pointer is smaller than the squares…), apparently when the canvas is refresh…

I see a problem in this area with the 4.4.2-beta2 but I see a different behaviour.

With the Linux appimage, the colour square shows only the current colour, not the newly selected colour - after that it won’t show a colour square again until I paint a stroke. Then, after another selection where it shows the collour, it displays no more colour squares.

With the Windows 10 portable .zip package, there are no colour squares displayed at all.
I’ve tried canvas graphics acceleration on/off and swapping between Angle and OpenGL - no change.

These problems do not happen with the 4.4.2-beta1 versions.

My graphics card is GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB with fairly recent Nvidia driver.

It seems that a formal bug report is needed.

@AhabGreybeard i’ve done the report, i chose ā€œusabilityā€, hope it’s the right section…
