Krita 5 Brush Library Questions

Hi, I understand Krita 5.1.1 has new brushes but they don’t load with the installation. Where do I locate the new Krita 5 brush Library and will the replace the current brushes or be installed separately. I don’t want to overwrite the existing brushes.

I’m not aware of 5.1.1 having any new brushes that are particular to 5.1.1.

Where did you read/hear about this and what was written/said?
If you describe that in more detail, someone may know what it’s about.

There are many brush collections for krita available in various places.
None of them overwrite or replace existing brushes.

Hi, maybe 5.0 then. I was watching a Youtube video (cannot find it) and they said 5.0 had additional “New” brush engines that could be downloaded. Is this incorrect?

Version 5 introduced the MyPaint brush engine but a brush engine isn’t something you download, it’s built in.
There are some Mypaint brush presets that you will see in the Brush Presets docker if you type “mypaint” in its search box.

After that, it’s up to users to create MyPaint brush engine brushes and make them available for general use. e.g:
Fizzyflower's ULTIMATE MyPaint Brush Collection

That is a ‘megapack’ of many different mypaint brush bundles and quite overwhelming.

Thanks for the info. I’m watching a lot of videos and trying to get a grip on what brushes do what etc.

So I duplicated one of the RGBA brushes (see image) and made a brush from it but I was trying to get the brush to have multiple colors. Is this possible with the RGBA Brush Engine and other Brush Engines or only the MyPaint Engine?

There is no ‘RGBA’ brush engine. The RGBA brushes use the pixel engine and some clever brush editor properties settings to create their effects.
I know very little about the other brush engines.

As a separate thing, if a brush tip is actually a coloured image, then by using Brush Mode: Colour Image it will paint in those colours. e.g.:

I can make ‘gimmick’ brushes (see above) but making an artistically useful brush is a skill that needs practice and it isn’t easy.

I’d suggest that you start a new topic with a specific title that explains what you’re trying to do so that somebody who knows about all this can give advice.

Sounds good. Thanks for your help.
