Layout study with Bocchi

I finally got around to watching Bocchi the Rock! and it’s as good as everyone was saying. I love this show! Haven’t laughed out load watching anime in a while :slightly_smiling_face:

Today I’m trying something different: layout study (copy practice). I recently came across this marvelous channel, which explains bits and pieces of anime production :point_right: Dong Chang - YouTube. I think one can learn a lot from it, even for the illustrations. And I don’t know, I find something about these anime production pictures very captivating.

Going back to Bocchi, a still from E1 was my reference today. The whole thing took 5.5 hours, I didn’t check how much was the layout, so that’s for the whole thing, with the final painting. I must say I really like this one! Character colors were sampled from the original, to keep it faithful.

The layout:

And the painting:

And look, it’s my 100’th Krita file this year! It’s not like I finish all of them, but still a small milestone to take note of

Wow impressive! I love how you did this, and the explanations!
Bocchi the Rock was such a great series, I love slice-of-life anime, but haven’t had so much fun with a slice-of-life in ages! :star_struck:
Congratulations on your milestone and an amazing piece!

I admire your diligence and drawing skills…(对您的勤奋与画技很敬佩…)
If I also have yours… Even half diligence and drawing skills are good.(如果我也有您的…即使一半勤奋与画技就好了。)

Thank you!

Not sure if it’s diligence, I’m sometimes impatient and don’t want to draw too carefully  But it helps a lot to have a clear goal of what you want to achieve with a painting, then you know if you’re getting close to finishing or not.

I also find it helpful to not set a too ambitious goal. If it’s too much, then it’s less likely that you will finish. Like with my previous painting, it took many days and at times I doubted if I will ever finish it. It’s better not to exert yourself that much and stay in 90% comfort zone. I think if you’re satisfied with 90% of your painting, then you have the motivation to continue drawing and keep improving that 10% that’s still lacking.

I’m looking forward to your new work, @nanochima !
