During the December Art Challenge, @Hoppa_Joel had an interesting idea:
one of the animators here, should morph each of these entries into a video,
Monthly Art Challenge – December 2023 – Paint the Krita-Artists Logo!
I tested the possibliity with the G’MIC Morph [Interactive] filter and was impressed by what it could do.
However, I decided not to use it because it would have been a lot of detailed work, as explained here:
Details of the G'MIC Morph Interactive Filter and why I didn't use it
The ‘niceness’ of the G’MIC Morph [Interactive] filter effect depends on the topological nature of the images you’re morphing between, Sometimes they are not so good for the morphing operation.
Also, there is work involved in creating well chosen start nodes and well chosen end nodes for the transition.
Here is an example morph loop using two images from the December Art Challenge:
The video should be played looped. It’s 1000 x 1000 so it looks good full screen.
As you can see, the lower right foot of the ‘K’ on the first image is coincident with the lower left foot of the ‘A’. The second image involves a crossover of that topology and it doesn’t look good.
Also, when the intermediate frames are created they are as separate layers which you then have to manually convert to a single animated layer.
For the 29 images of the December Art Challenge, I used a much simpler technique using reveal/hide transitions that I already had in an effects collection. That was much easier:
The video should be played looped.
It seems that a previously used video depended on the browser type, the operating system type (and possibly the time of day) for whether it would play or not.
I’ve replaced that with a 400 x 400 uploaded video.
The full size 1000 x 1000 video can be downloaded from here:
