Monthly Art Challenge – December 2023 – Paint the Krita-Artists Logo!

Hello Krita Artists!

We completed the Monthly Art Challenge for November 2023. Congratulations to @Mythmaker, the winner. And congratulations to everyone who participated by submitting wonderful art, and also to our members who voted for the entries.

And now It’s time to announce the Monthly Art Challenge for December 2023.

Monthly Art Challenge – December 2023 – Topic: Paint the Krita-Artists Logo!

Further details from @Mythmaker:
Your challenge for this month is to create your own illustrated version of the Krita Artists logo.

  • Theme and style is entirely up to you; You could base it on classical illuminated manuscript, or make something more contemporary.
  • Base your design within a square canvas and using the letters ‘K’ and ‘A’.
  • You can use the existing logo’s letter style as a template, another typeface, or create your own.
  • Try to ensure the letters are still legible when zoomed out.

Here’s a simplified outline of the official logo - in case anyone wants to use that as a template:

And this video might help as it shows lots of different styles of illustrated letters:

Happy painting! :paintbrush: :slightly_smiling_face:

Please post only artworks and discussion related to submitted artwork in this thread. There is a WIP thread for each monthly art challenge in which you can ask questions and post your works in progress.

Rules

  • The composition should be your own and not an exact copy from someone or somewhere else. If you are using a reference photo taken by anyone other than yourself, please ensure the license allows for its use and include a credit to the photographer with your submission.
  • Artwork should be done in Krita. Submissions must be done from scratch in Krita, no paint-over or tracing allowed. Photobashing is allowed only when explicitly specified in the topic.
  • The topic changes every month. Your submission should be somehow related to the topic. If possible, please add a few lines explaining your idea and image.
  • No AI-generated images are allowed, not even partial use of AI and paint over. It is unfair for those who are drawing from scratch.
  • You can post a maximum of 3 entries and also edit the entries until the deadline. All your entries will be clubbed during the vote and you only get one vote. Reply with your entries to this post in this thread. Please ensure all entries are in the same post.
  • In order to have the image featured, the entries need to be safe for work so please avoid any NSFW or controversial content. The moderators can use their discretion to disqualify the image from the contest with prior notice. Of course, the artist will be given the chance to submit an alternate image or change it.
  • Submissions will be accepted until 2023-12-26T17:00:00Z, at which time the topic will automatically close. You can check how much time is left at the bottom of the thread.

We will hold a poll at the end of the challenge period. The artwork with the most votes will be the winner.

Prize

  • The winner(s) will be featured on this website in the featured artwork row.
  • The winner(s) will have the privilege to set the topic of their liking. If the winner is not available or reachable, then the 1st runner up will be asked to provide the topic and challenge
  • The winner will also be awarded the Monthly Art Contest Winner badge.

Please spread the word about this art challenge by posting your artwork on various social media websites with the hashtag – #KritaChallenge. If possible, include a link to the forum post.

I hope we will enjoy this exercise so let us begin.

**P.S. Note we can change the rules based on the feedback on this contest and modify the format. Any suggestions are welcome. To submit feedback, please create a new topic in the Site Feedback category.

Note : We have changed the title of this event from Monthly Art Contest to Monthly Art Challenge as it is more of a challenge for learning together rather than a contest, even if there is an award.

Here’s my final version of the December Challenge of a KRITA logo design revision! If it feels very Federation inspired, it should! :star_struck: I’ve been a Trek fan for years, and rightly so…as my name is Kirk!

All these other Gorgeous pieces you’ve all entered had me thinking that mine was a little bland, so I’ve dressed it up a bit and here is my second submission! Don’t think I’ll have a third…but it’s still early!

My thoughts behind this

I imagine December is one of the months that is synonymous with vacations, and it is always a debate within the family as to where to vacation at the end of the year, whether to the mountains, or to the beach. Those two places are always crowded during the holidays. And in the end, the annual debate did not meet the point of agreement and finally the vacation moments were spent nowhere, aka staying at home, finished.

My second entry: Underground

Behind the scene

From inspiration, ideas, and obstacles almost all of which I have shared on Monthly Art Challenge WIPs and Discussion Thread – December 2023 , and what I will tell you here is that in the finishing stage, I made many color variations. But in the end I decided to use a natural color that was not too bright and not flashy, and it seemed like it would look less scary.
:kiki_love:
I hope you enjoy the result, and also please check the timelapse if you are curious about the process of making it, I made it in the form of a short video because I really appreciate your precious time.
Thank you. :kiki:

3rd entry: Mosaic

thanks

Here is my final version. I’ll post the ones that were not selected on the other topic.

A kind of condensate of many styles that inspired me, and still do so. There are those biomechanics shapes from Giger & « Blame! » with this taint of dreamlike and vaporous for Beksinski and Turner, the rocky and ruin aspect added with of nature for the great forbidden places of John Martin, and this purple is the Covenant one (even if not dark enough)… =)

this one was mainly chosen because of letters’ visibility, I like the almost full elliptical shape made by the curves of the 2 letters seen from far. Also the other version are less vivid, and I wanted to show a larger panel of colour on the final.
It was a real pleasure having the opportunity to make it!

Here is my entry.
It was more fun than I thought to have fun with the shapes.

It’s almost got a vintage stained glass quality to it. Very cool!
