Hi there Been using Krita for a couple years for almost all my art (with the occasional doodles on MS paint that I know not to post here). I’m enthusiastic that this awesome free to use and open source art program exists. I plan to slowly post some old scribbles I made on Krita on this topic with a mix of new ones.
The thumbnail is my fan art of Selen Tatsuki who used to be a Vtuber. She was designed by Kamamesigogo Maru, and I referenced this study from their illustration. I experimented with the default wet brushes that came with Krita to create this doodle.
Last night I said I’d do a “quick study” but 3 AM quickly came It’s fan art of Sindri from God of War. It’s not finished but I don’t think I’m inclined to continue it. Once again having fun with emilm’smemileo 360light brushes
Today’s practice An attempt on a little perspective. The shapes fill brush is so fun, I used it for all the white. I think I might have used the texture crackles brush for the blood (I already forgot even though I think I just made this like two hours ago haha).
This is fan art of Sayaka Miki from the anime Puella Magi Madoka Magica.

Some notes on things I know can be improved for future similar art of mine (but didn’t because I’m simply trying to enjoy the creation of art without creating a perpetual cycle of editing and abandoning work until frustration leading to artblock…as has often happened haha )
The image is confusing, less but more effective lines would help.
The gesture of the arm is unnatural to the movement.
Related to point one, focusing on either shadows or highlights, not both, would help with consistency. Before finalizing with the shapes fill brush tool, it’s best to create a draft of the shadows or highlights, then drawing the finalized shapes over it.
More of a general thing than an issue specific to the piece…hands could be improved (even though I’ve obsessed over sketching them over and over when I was young, they’re still so tricky to me.)
Instead of using a texture brush, manually drawing blood splatter shapes would probably look more cohesive to the rest of the piece. But that means having to study how to draw splatters in a way that I like…

I don’t know how, but the sword hilt could be depicted better…
Now for some things I actually like:
The movement of the sword actually surprised me. I didn’t think I could depict such a thing as well as I think I just did I think a lot of it is thanks to the shapes fill brush honestly.
I’m also glad I was able to figure out how to balance the block of white on the left depicting the cape by filling in the sword on the right somewhat with white as well (initially it was a black outlined in white).
I was also having trouble trying to fit in Oktavia, but I think I did it pretty well in a–for the most part (in my opinion)–non-intrusive, harmonious way. I think the curve of the sword’s path and blood leading ended up looking pleasant.
Speaking of Oktavia, I’m glad I thought less is more. Sayaka was already looking pretty chaotic by herself (in part due to my indecisive use of shapes and lines), so adding my initial plan of patterns under Oktavia’s cloak behind Sayaka would have made the piece even more confusing. I think leaving that out was a good call I made. I think it would have taken away from Sayaka’s awesome presence anyway.
Like the sword motion, I’m surprised I figured out a good shape to depict Sayaka’s frills. I think they look pretty nice.
I really like that I decided to use the only other touch of color on her eyes…I think she looks menacing.
Save for the hand, I think I’m pretty happy with my goal of doing a practice on a touch of perspective for this piece.

I’m very excited for Mikhailasmo’s Inking Brush Set ! I’ve always had trouble controlling line weight but the Alt Circle brush is actually something I can somehow manage.
For this practice, I studied a panel with my favorite character from a certain manga I wonder if anyone here knows.
