Metallics by Draneria

:sparkles: March Update :sparkles:

Hello everyone! It’s been a minute since the last update but I wanted to take the time today to show what I’ve been up to, and figure out the best way to do some of the brushes with a poll
(ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚

First of all, I’ve looked into 1700’s Dhal shields from the Mughal empire, identified patterns that would translate well, and turned them into brushes! I’m also going to be adapting patterns from historical Greek and Aztec art, and more (I love history xD)

I can emboss the shape so it looks raised (like real metal would be), but it’s taking time to look right.

Alternatively, It’s fast to make simple shapes, and use Memileo brushes as the fill. Development choices between flat and 3D! I’ll probably be implementing a mix, since both have nice effects.

Next up, I’ve also improved the “Metallic Foil, Crumple” so that its super easy to get full coverage - but if you add less pressure, there’s a new way to make a chipped/grungy effect which feels a lot more chaotic and natural, because it doesn’t rely on a texture like before.

I’ve also been developing a :dragon: Dragonscale Brush :dragon: ( ˵ ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°˵)ノ⌒*:・゚

I’m pretty happy with how this badboi is coming along, and as a bonus it looks good as a non-metallic brush as well.

POLL TIME

So guys, a while ago Memileo (:purple_heart:) explained how to make 360* light brushes, and now everyone can have a go! (Link: Memileo Impasto Brushes - #112 by emilm)

Should Metallics 2.0 use this technique? I’m wondering what the community would prefer.

  • I can make a set of 360-rotation light brushes and implement the technique for a consistent, dynamic light direction. However!

  • There is a huge learning curve, and I expect it’ll mean less brushes or much longer development time.

Choices choices ( ✧≖‿ゝ≖) What do we think?

  • Yes! 360* Brushes lets goo
  • Nah! More brushes lets goo

P.S Not sure what I am on about?

Definition: 360* Light Brushes

This refers to making a highly realistic 3D paint effect by simulating light, using Blender. The process is specialised, and takes much longer to do then normal brush development!

For a demonstration of this, have a look at Memileos Impastos, and Frog Misc Brushes.

Also I hope you’ve all been well! Cheers :alien_monster:
