Metallics by Draneria

In Krita do open the menu ‘‘Settings’’ → ‘‘Manage Resources…’’ where you have to click Open Resource Folder, this will open Krita’s resource folder, now simply drop your file Metallics_by_Draneria.bundle at the very end of that folder between the other bundles you can see there, then restart Krita. Now Krita will load it while it is restarting. That’s it.

Another possibility would be to create a folder named bundles in your resource folder, and drop your bundle there. Then again restart Krita and you can use it.

By the way, a bundle is installed in Krita via the menu ‘‘Settings’’ → ‘‘Manage Resource Libraries…’’ and in the opening dialog you have to click the button + Import in the next dialog browse to the downloaded bundle, select it and confirm the selection (in your case probably better do not double-click it, just simply select it and hit the OK-Button of that dialog). Now Krita imports that bundle, and you can use its content, so the brushes in case of this bundle.
In case this BUNDLE comes in an archive-file, like ZIP or RAR for instance, then you have to unpack the archive to get the BUNDLE-File it contains, then you can proceed as described above.

Hi Draneria, just found this bundle on the forum. It looks so good, I had to give a tip!
Thanks so much for making this accessible to everyone, it takes a lot of time to create this! Great job!

@Selk writes way back in November:

So if I want to use the brush with its pattern and with the nice effects, how can I make it paint on the parts that are transparent?

Have you tried to paint on two or three separate layers and then merge them so you can get 100% coverage? This seemed to work for me with the Dra) Metallic; Foil - Fill, Crumpled brush from your video. The green is only a single layer and has the pattern transparency while the blue is on three layers and is totally filled.

Thanks. I will try it.

Hello everyone!

Brushes loading into Krita

If you’ve had issues getting any Metallics and Memileo brushes to be in Krita, this could resolve it for you.

This was spotted on NixOS, but it’s probably relevant for anyone on a linux distro or struggling to get brushes to load in.

:sparkles:: Some brushes don't load on Linux · Issue #4 · Draneria/Metallics-by-Draneria_Krita-Brushes · GitHub

Thank you Shiryel who found this issue and posted the solution!

Secret Juicy Behind The Scenes Technical Info

Libpng seems to be truncating iTXt metadata!

To quote the lovely Shiryel:

"This issue happens in any brush bigger than ~8mb, because Krita stores the config of the brush inside a png, on the metadata, and indirectly uses libpng through qtbase to get the config.

But libpng default compile settings limits the size of the metadata, truncating it, making the brush fail to load on Krita."

I’ll also send in an issue report/thingie later since this seems to be to do with Krita itself, rather then something my brushes can fix.

P.S Metallics 2.0 making progress! slowly but surely (´。• ᵕ •。`)

:sparkles: March Update :sparkles:

Hello everyone! It’s been a minute since the last update but I wanted to take the time today to show what I’ve been up to, and figure out the best way to do some of the brushes with a poll
(ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚

⊰•⊱

First of all, I’ve looked into 1700’s Dhal shields from the Mughal empire, identified patterns that would translate well, and turned them into brushes! I’m also going to be adapting patterns from historical Greek and Aztec art, and more (I love history xD)

I can emboss the shape so it looks raised (like real metal would be), but it’s taking time to look right.

Alternatively, It’s fast to make simple shapes, and use Memileo brushes as the fill. Development choices between flat and 3D! I’ll probably be implementing a mix, since both have nice effects.

Next up, I’ve also improved the “Metallic Foil, Crumple” so that its super easy to get full coverage - but if you add less pressure, there’s a new way to make a chipped/grungy effect which feels a lot more chaotic and natural, because it doesn’t rely on a texture like before.

I’ve also been developing a :dragon: Dragonscale Brush :dragon: ( ˵ ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°˵)ノ⌒*:・゚

I’m pretty happy with how this badboi is coming along, and as a bonus it looks good as a non-metallic brush as well.

POLL TIME

So guys, a while ago Memileo (:purple_heart:) explained how to make 360* light brushes, and now everyone can have a go! (Link: Memileo Impasto Brushes - #112 by emilm)

Should Metallics 2.0 use this technique? I’m wondering what the community would prefer.

  • I can make a set of 360-rotation light brushes and implement the technique for a consistent, dynamic light direction. However!

  • There is a huge learning curve, and I expect it’ll mean less brushes or much longer development time.

Choices choices ( ✧≖‿ゝ≖) What do we think?

  • Yes! 360* Brushes lets goo
  • Nah! More brushes lets goo

P.S Not sure what I am on about?

Definition: 360* Light Brushes

This refers to making a highly realistic 3D paint effect by simulating light, using Blender. The process is specialised, and takes much longer to do then normal brush development!

For a demonstration of this, have a look at Memileos Impastos, and Frog Misc Brushes.

Also I hope you’ve all been well! Cheers :alien_monster:

Thank you so much! While I’m here quick update; I’ve been a bit busy taking care of my first art commission, but the plan is to do Memileo-style 360* light brushes! I appreciate everyone taking part in the poll. I’ll be posting my experiments as soon as I have stuff to share (≖ᴗ≖ )σ

Thank you! I made this with your brushes, I love their texture. Thanks for helping me learn how to use krita!

Also I discovered the palette tool while looking for the metallics and seem to have somehow perma deleted the metal palette immediately after finding it, so I need to find a new metals palette. It existed.

I’m honoured, and your art is so sweet thank you for sharing :purple_heart:
As for the palette, you are right! Have a look here:

:sparkles: Google Drive: Palette Only – Google Drive

I’ve packaged the palette as a separate bundle, installing that should fix it. Let me know if there are any issues (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚

THANK YOU so much for making it a seperate bundle!

I’m tired of doing art for this week, but if I make something with the metal colors this month I will share it with you.
