My head is empty for this prompt so I decided just to draw a young Kiki with a scared look…

I failed.

I got old Kiki with an annoyed look, lol;

Hello fellow Krita creators, I haven’t participated in an art contest for a while now but I decided I wanted to try again, the last time I participated I was 13 now I am 14. Just trying to make it out there as a young artist . So I decided to portray Kiki as a 5-year-old little girl that’s a human, and every time she sleeps the monster from under her bed comes out to play. she always draws the monster to try to express what she sees, because her parents are in denial. I try to include her interest in art so its similar to Krita itself being built up of art. So in this scene its a similar night as usually but it seems to be coming closer a little too…close?
I hope you’ll like this piece all of you guys are so talented wish you the best.

Hi everyone,
I don’t have much skills, but I tried to do a reinterpretation of Skrik by Edvard Munch.

  • The idea of Kiki being scared comes to me from an “Art Nightmare”, where she finds herself trapped on an expressionist world. (hopefully just a dream )

  • My second entry is just being afraid of the dark.

@bob2 your painting is very nice but I struggle to see a 5 y-o cyber-squirrel in it… Is she afraid that she has been transformed into an adult lumberjack (such big hands) by a witch? :kiki_shocked:

Hey guys! Here’s my entry. It’s been ready for a few days but I wanted to let it rest for a while, to make sure I had no more corrections to make instead of reposting several amended versions as I did last month…

So, did I mention how I like film poster parodies? LOL Of course I had to do this. As soon as I read the topic, I immediately thought of the poster of Home Alone! Even though Kevin in the film is older than 5, I tried to rectify this as much as I could in the anatomy of my Kiki.
I had my frame but what would she be afraid of? There was many possibilities to put behind the window: I could exploit her cyber side and make some bugs, or even the mascots of some competitors (Gimp’s mascot would make a great Big Bad Wolf!), or exploit her squirrel side, and I though about drawing Disney’s Chip and Dale doing silly faces! But then I realized that unlike in the original poster, her buns here would hide the most part of the window so I decided to make the window itself the symbol of Windows as if it was on a monitor after a CTD…
Now the mandatory remark about the fonts I used, as usual the free version I found the closest to the original (referenced from fontmeme.com/home-alone-font/), so I used the Century font provided in Windows with reduced space (-5.00) instead of ITC Century Book Condensed that seem to have been used in the original, and I used Jungle Fever (100% free on dafont.com) instead of Lithos Pro Black for the flavor text…

I need to learn how to ink and fill like that

Like me, you should have trained as a technical draftsman towards the end of the 80s, when people were still drawing with real ink. I don’t think you could get a better foundation in the use of tools anywhere else than in such an apprenticeship. Three and a half years of pure drill for the complete training.

Thanks @Elixiah , from a master like you it’s such a moving compliment.
Speaking of your training @Michelist , when will we ever see something from you? Don’t you like to play with Krita too?

Since I can not control my right hand anymore, a gift from the strokes I had, it is unlikely I will show something presentable. The only thing I kept doing is making some icons for my music playing app, that is something I can do with my mouse mostly and the precision is enough.

Oh sorry… Did you try learning to draw with your other hand? With enough time and training it should work? :worried:

I can’t say that the left hand fared any better. But hey, such is life, so I help in the forum if possible.

@Michelist So sorry to hear that! Maybe you could try with your left hand? I say this because when I had carpal tunnel surgery on my right hand, I played around with drawing with my left hand for a couple weeks. Felt really strange, but it was oddly satisfying to create something… albeit a totally different style Lol
As far as technical drawing, I did quite a bit in 80s and 90s at work, but it was all vector. I am proficient in CorelDraw, but digital inking is a different story and evades me. I haven’t messed with vectors in Krita much… it seems pretty alien to me since I learned with CorelDraw. I enjoy digital painting much more
