So out of curiosity, how did August end up being Kiki’s month? I would have thought Kiki’s month would be the same as the birth month of Krita, but I guess not.
Because in August 2022 Grum chose a Kiki-themed topic. It proved to be popular with plenty of entries, so raghukamath suggested we make August Kiki month every year. Then I mentioned it when the time came last year, so we had the second one. Now we have the third!
I hope I’m not alone in saying this. Kiki seems like such a positive and happy character. I’m miserable right now trying to think of a scenario where I would want to put her in a situation where she’s 5 years old and afraid. It’s bumming me out.
So… the challenge is to draw what a 5 year old Kiki might be afraid of? I agree with @Bobrowsdower and I was trying to think of how I could combine the ideas of a positive character and being fearful.
I can’t even imagine the life experiences of a 5 year old Kiki, so I’m going with the idea that’s about her hero’s journey age. It’s ok to be afraid, it’s what helps her to grow into the Kiki we all know and love!
I came to the idea that Kiki was going on adventures, and being afraid wasn’t going to stop her from taking on her fears and taking risks as she explored.
I’m thinking there’s a lot to be done on the details for this drawing, It’s a total rough draft. Kiki needs refinement, the lava is not more than blocking, the sky is getting more detail, the volcano is barely more than a blob…
With a quiet feeling here in general and Bob expressing a possible reason many more folks may be feeling, I wanted to post this here even in this state. Maybe this this helps inspire y’all? Can’t wait to see what everyone else is able to come up with!
I’m also curious how everyone will handle this theme. I thought of ways that keep it more positive; sort of a silly take of Kiki being startled by a ‘childish’ fear like spiders , or a more serious take of having courage in the face of something scary . The way the topic is written, Kiki might also be telling her fears to someone who can help. But some may go another route, and make it horror-themed? Who knows? That’s what makes these challenges interesting. @steve.improvthis 's volcano with lightning feels like a nightmare to me.
I’d like to do something courage-themed myself, but I’ll probably have trouble getting my ideas across (if I can even get them together in my head).
Maybe she’s afraid of…
…empty canvases?
…not enough disk space for saving all the pictures painted?
…an Art-Block?
…a lost stylus?
…a dreary world without colors?
…so many other things that you can fill with colors…
By the way, feel free to use these ideas if you like one!
I was also thinking of something going that way… not horror, but scary bugs! I really wanted to give it a glitchy effect. Still don’t know how I’m gonna do that, but I looked at some tutorials that seem interesting!
