Monthly Art Challenge – July 2025 – Cool Rides

Hello Krita Artists :wave:t4:

Congratulations to everyone who participated in the June challenge by submitting wonderful art, and also to our members who voted for the entries.

@Katamaheen won the most votes and has created the theme for this month’s challenge. The optional challenge was created by @Mythmaker.

Monthly Art Challenge - July 2025 - :chequered_flag: :racing_car: :racing_car: Cool Rides :racing_car: :racing_car: :dashing_away:

Let the race begin! But first, you’ll need a race car: four wheels, an engine and a lot of creativity! Design a vehicle, whether it’s realistic, cartoonish, futuristic, steampunk or completely mad, the main thing is that it goes fast! :dashing_away:

So, fasten your seatbelts and warm up your paintbrushes. Are you ready? GO!

Optional challenge (by @Mythmaker) : Add fictional sponsorship logos to your car - matching the theme of your design.

Please post only artworks and discussion related to submitted artwork in this thread. There is a WIP thread for each monthly art challenge in which you can ask questions and post your works in progress (WIPs).

Monthly Art Challenge WIPs and Discussion Thread – July 2025

  • Artwork should be done in Krita. Submissions must be done from scratch in Krita, no paint-over or tracing allowed. Photobashing is allowed only when explicitly specified in the topic.
  • The topic changes every month. Your submission should be somehow related to the topic. If possible, please add a few lines explaining your idea and image.
  • No AI-generated images are allowed, not even partial use of AI and paint over. It is unfair for those who are drawing from scratch.
  • You can post a maximum of 3 entries and also edit the entries until the deadline. All your entries will be clubbed during the vote and you only get one vote. Reply with your entries to this post in this thread. All entries must appear in a single post. Please do not post your submissions in any other category on Krita-Artists until voting has closed and the winner is declared.
  • In order to have the image featured, the entries need to be safe for work so please avoid any NSFW or controversial content. The moderators can use their discretion to disqualify the image from the contest with prior notice. Of course, the artist will be given the chance to submit an alternate image or change it.
  • Submissions will be accepted until 2025-07-26T18:00:00Z, at which time the topic will automatically close. You can check how much time is left at the bottom of the thread.

We will hold a poll at the end of the challenge period. The artwork with the most votes will be the winner.

Prize

  • The winner will be featured on this website in the featured artwork row.
  • The winner will have the privilege to set the next topic of their liking. If the winner is not available or reachable, then the 1st runner up will be asked to provide the topic and challenge
  • The winner will also be awarded the Monthly Art Contest Winner badge.

Please spread the word about this art challenge by posting your artwork on various social media websites with the hashtag – #KritaChallenge. If possible, include a link to the forum post.

I hope we will enjoy this exercise so let us begin.

P.S. Note we can change the rules based on the feedback on this contest and modify the format. Any suggestions are welcome. To submit feedback, please create a new topic in the Site Feedback category.

My entries for July 2025 “Cool Rides” with the optional challenge of adding in some sponsor logos, there’s more info in the discussion link.

Just in time for the MLB All-Star Game… :billed_cap: :baseball:
Cartoon Announcer: “Mr. Fastball flies off the pitcher’s mound riding his jet-engine powered baseball bat! Looks like the batter is going to need a time machine to hit this one, Mr. Fastball has flown over the plate before he even starts his swing!”

This is a bit more vintage, scribbly, painterly and messy…
This was mostly done with RGBA and Charcoal brushes.

Futuristic Race Vehicles;

I’m really proud of myself. I played the monthly contests for 7 months straight. Typically I get burnt out… but somehow I managed it this year. I do have to eventually take a break this coming fall so I can catch up on other art projects I have put on the wayside. But that was definitely a nice streak.

My entry for this month’s Cool Rides. I chose to do my version of a vintage Rat Fink in a superstock '57 Chevy doing a burnout. Custom sponsor logos included. I changed “H**ker” Headers to “Looker” headers

I don’t think I’ve every properly drawn a car before, this was a really fun challenge!
(@Elixiah coincidentally I’ve drawn a rat themed picture too, now there’s two :rat:)

This is my entry for the July 2025 monthly art contest. However, after reviewing the contest rules more closely, I realized my concept doesn’t quite meet the intended requirements.

The July contest theme is: Cool Rides, with a sub-theme of Racing.

The instructions were: “Design a vehicle—whether it’s realistic, cartoonish, futuristic, steampunk, or completely mad—the main thing is that it goes fast!” Unfortunately, I misinterpreted that to mean something different than what was later clarified in the WIP thread. Even though I know there’s a concept realization issue (sorry!), I had nearly completed the drawing by the time I discovered it and though why not post it anyway.

My concept is this: In the 1960’s, there was a race to the Moon. In 1969, traveling at more than 293 miles per hour, a spacecraft left Earth and achieved that goal. Later, the Apollo 15 mission arrived with the first race car on the Moon: the Lunar Rover. Just for fun, I imagined it as a Corvette Stingray—big engine, four wheels—speeding across the lunar surface. Considering both the Lunar Lander and the Corvette, I thought to myself: Two cool rides.

@relink I actually think your entry is more in line with the prompt than my entry is, so I wouldn’t worry too much about it.

I debated about turning my entry in. @Katamaheen said my entry can be tagged as a futuristic racing vehicle, but I still think my entry doesn’t really fit the bill. That being said, I’m not opposed to not being in the voting roster.

Also, I treat the monthly contests more as a chance to add to my portfolio/develop my skills… I say focus on having fun with the prompts, rather than fulfilling it to win the contest.

@Elixiah Wowza! That’s so cool. And the rat is freaky, right down to the hovering flies. Now that’s a winner!

@I_J10 Thanks! I was chuckling the whole time I was doing the Rat Fink

Here’s my “Cool Rides” entry for this month.

Introducing the first Earth to Moon rally!

1.All vehicles/ space shuttles must be able to race on land
and fly to the moon and back. The starting line is in
Fes, with check points in San Fransisco, Kathmandu,
and Mosfellsbaer, Iceland.

2 In space, fly to check points orbiting earth and a stop at the midway Station Sterling 1, then head to the moon,
sling around it and jet back to the finish line at Fes.

  1. The fastest time wins the race.

Our entry is the R-ARTV-1 Canolli,number 99.
(My cousin said that my cool car looked like a red canolli.)

Here are the stats:

Land Engine: HOG 66 twin turbo charge hp at 7,355 rpm and 1000 ft-lb of torque.
-maximum speed 450+ mph on land.

Flight Engine: SPV 6000 transspectrum drive. Maximum speed -all the way baby!

Specs: Retractable wings and tail, roll bars, non puncture all terrain tires, seats two.

Capability: Rough terrain, space flight and dockung.

Special features: Extendible legs to avoid obstacles ie, rocks, cows, etc.
Gravitational control when space bound. :first_quarter_moon_face:

(Made this all up!!!)

I tinkered with all the Krita features. Used the stabilizer and delay options but I was still limited in my attempt for the perfect line. So excuse the wonky lines every one. I tried!
Used the perspective feature, but it really crowded my small screen ,so I used it as a quick reference then I eye balled it.

@Katamaheen ,@Mythmaker This was fun challenge !
