According to Wikipedia, Solarpunk is an optimistic vision of the future in which nature and community are interconnected. Read more here.

Please post only artworks and discussion related to submitted artwork in this thread. There is a WIP thread for each monthly art challenge in which you can ask questions and post your works in progress. November WIP thread

Rules

  • The composition should be your own and not an exact copy from someone or somewhere else. If you are using a reference photo taken by anyone other than yourself, please ensure the license allows for its use and include a credit to the photographer with your submission.
  • Artwork should be done in Krita. Submissions must be done from scratch in Krita, no paint-over or tracing allowed. Photobashing is allowed only when explicitly specified in the topic.
  • The topic changes every month. Your submission should be somehow related to the topic. If possible, please add a few lines explaining your idea and image.
  • No AI-generated images are allowed, not even partial use of AI and paint over. It is unfair for those who are drawing from scratch.
  • You can post a maximum of 3 entries and also edit the entries until the deadline. All your entries will be clubbed during the vote and you only get one vote. Reply with your entries to this post in this thread. Please ensure all entries are in the same post.
  • In order to have the image featured, the entries need to be safe for work so please avoid any NSFW or controversial content. The moderators can use their discretion to disqualify the image from the contest with prior notice. Of course, the artist will be given the chance to submit an alternate image or change it.
  • Submissions will be accepted until 2023-11-26T17:00:00Z, at which time the topic will automatically close. You can check how much time is left at the bottom of the thread.

We will hold a poll at the end of the challenge period. The artwork with the most votes will be the winner.

Prize

  • The winner(s) will be featured on this website in the featured artwork row.
  • The winner(s) will have the privilege to set the topic of their liking. If the winner is not available or reachable, then the 1st runner up will be asked to provide the topic and challenge
  • The winner will also be awarded the Monthly Art Contest Winner badge.

Please spread the word about this art challenge by posting your artwork on various social media websites with the hashtag – #KritaChallenge. If possible, include a link to the forum post.

I hope we will enjoy this exercise so let us begin.

**P.S. Note we can change the rules based on the feedback on this contest and modify the format. Any suggestions are welcome. To submit feedback, please create a new topic in the Site Feedback category.

Note : We have changed the title of this event from Monthly Art Contest to Monthly Art Challenge as it is more of a challenge for learning together rather than a contest, even if there is an award.

My first entry, titled Growing Up

:arrow_forward: timelapse

The idea behind this image

with the rapid advancement of science, scientists are able to mimic the way plants create, manage and utilize renewable energy so that it can be applied directly to the buildings of the future.

if you look at the timelapse, you can see that I tested a few things and ended up not using them in the final result. :face_exhaling:

*I’m hiding the details because of the preparation for the second entry

My second entry, Green Energy

:arrow_forward: timelapse

the story behind it

It’s been a long time since I drew a vector on krita, and I tried to draw small parts of this illustration and posted it here Vector drawing in krita - #11 by Iruhas and many interesting things happened :kiki:.

My big motivation and inspiration for this illustration came from https://www.youtube.com/user/Kurzgesagt , I really love their art style.

Back to my illustration story earlier, actually this is just a short illustration that illustrates how earthlings in the future maximize renewable energy sources in a small environment. Whether it comes from water, wind, sunlight, organic waste, and so on.

My Third entry, Local Solarpunk

:arrow_forward: Timelapse

behind the scenes

I made this picture using only RGBA brushes, I think I still need a lot of practice to master it.
:kiki_upside_down:

First, I imagined the beginning of the solarpunk era (starting from today), then I tried to depict a person who enjoys his hobby of programming robots near a solar power plant on a sunny morning. And to reach that place, the woman uses her electric vehicle which can also be recharged by the solar panel.

This artwork is inspired by a place where a floating solar power plant is being built over a large dam, Cirata Dam - Wikipedia :indonesia:

I hereby fulfill the maximum capacity of challenge entries for this month.
Yay… :kikiexcited: :digital_pen:

I really admire your ability to use the vector tools in Krita! I briefly tried it once, but it’s so different from CorelDraw, which I’m used to for vectors, I didn’t try to learn it in Krita. Beautiful piece!

Finished up last night. I’m calling it “Grandma Doesn’t Live There Anymore”. I looked at multiple references from Dreamstime and Pinterest to help with my creativity deficiency Lol. I wanted to embody a feeling of deja vu and empathy in a vast post-apocalyptic setting, where people make do the best they can.

Breakthrough.

It may be a stretch on the theme but I think it works.

Interesting topic
Whats the job today? Working in the ice mines, working in ht mushroom farms outside? Or, just stay home and relax in your cabin in the dome?

You can almost feel the breeze in this one. I like the pink undertones hinting at a sunset.

Pfew! :relieved: I thought I wouldn’t be able to finish it in time, I’m exhausted! But it’s done, not perfect but at least presentable.
Let’s see: a post-apocalyptic world where humans are forced to respect nature and are starting to understand how to live with it, the large use of wind energy… I think this film can fall under the solarpunk category? So my entry is a fanart of Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind.

Too many distractions this month - I didn’t really have a chance with the amount of time I left myself. Still - it was fun watching myself trying to creatively problem solve to generate detail as efficiently as possible.

Here’s what I have so far. Hopefully you get the general idea…
