I have now requested.

@Katamaheen Same here! I really wanted to learn to use this tool. I’m seeing that it comes in handy for some things. ![]()
Progress of my first entry: 30%
The photo on the left is a photo of the bamboo garden in my front yard that I took using my phone camera. I drew it by aligning my drawing with the reference photo instead of tracing it, because I think this way makes me learn more and makes me more confident in my observation ability.
I also found a faster way than using the regular selection tool, which is to use brushes that use the Shape engine (I hope it’s still included in the challenge)

1&2 from Krita_3_Default_Resources.bundle and 3 from Bug_Craftsmanship.bundle
With this, I was able to create organic shapes in seconds, and this was after I had tried it for about 30 minutes. Since all the basic shapes are visible, it looks like I can go straight to the detailing process.
Nice. I’ve been using the shape tool and the rectangle tool and the line tool. Avoiding the brush tool.
I thought this theme would be interesting, but I couldn’t figure out what to do. Something real or fantasy? From a reference or not? I ended up wandering around on Google Maps looking for inspiration. Going along in Street View, I kept mis-clicking and going off bridges, but the underside of bridges can be quite interesting it seems.
So here’s my urban architecture WIP from a Google Maps reference image.
I picked something rather challenging with all those straight lines and shadows, though.
Woah, nice job!
@Iruhas Great idea! I am not familiar with the shape fill tools, but now I have something new to check out. This challenge is all about learning about tools and resources that we may not know about, or have never tried. ![]()
I love bridges. They can make really interesting shapes and shadows.
Trying another piece using the fill brush and lasso tool a lot more than the first one. Not sure which one I like better for selecting an area. I have redone a some of the larger fill areas a few times trying to simplify and show some texture without drawing every individual detail
Lol. The reference is a random Google maps streetview in Venice, Italy.
The water reflections are great.
That’s probably the only part I’m happy about. Thank you!
Here’s Venice again. After watching a few of RamonM’s tutorials, I tried filling the two foreground buildings with a brick texture that I outline selected with the lasso tool. Pretty cool. I just thought Krita’s texture library was
for canvas backgrounds. Well, I learned you can fill any selection with them. Oh the possibilities!
Yep, it looks way better like that! ![]()
Crazy
@Iruhas I’m puzzled by your use of the word ‘urban’ ![]()
re. Monthly Art Challenge – February 2024 – Architectural / Urban Scene - #18 by Iruhas
Edit:Add: I moved all this (below) because I feel guilty for starting it all ![]()
Sorry, it’s because of my word choice and inaccurate translation from Indonesian-English. What is the right word to describe that condition? Is it a village, or is it still a suburb? Or some other term I don’t know. Because of this I am very lazy to look for references to the scenery of the building.

Think of towns and cities.
My comment was meant as a joke but has a more serious point.
The word ‘urban’ means an area with lots of buildings of both domestic and commercial or industrial nature, with roads and railways etc. A town or city.
The opposite of that is ‘rural’ which means fields and farms and forests, etc.
Your front yard seems to look absolutely stunning for a west European like me! The only minus point would be the high probability of finding a huge spider or other big, scary crawling things ![]()
What you are imagining is true, there are often caterpillars walking on the walls outside the house, snakes entering the house through tree leaves and through the roof, often squirrels or bats that enter the room through the hole for my cats to pass through, and in certain seasons there will be a lot of insects both crawling and flying. It sounds horrible but it’s really not that bad. ![]()
And it’s actually the same for me and most tropical people, who dream of snow.
