No automatic text wrapping?

Hello guys
After 15 years using Photoshop for a personal project, I thought, “Hey, let’s try Krita, it must have improved a lot since then.”

Everything was going more or less smoothly with my work until… I wanted to place a block of text.
Click and drag to create the container > it opens the text window (so far, so good), but the more I type, the more the text overflows the container. If I scale the container, the text scales too; it doesn’t adapt.

So either I’m a complete idiot and I can’t figure out how to do it… or it’s not possible, and in that case, I find it appalling that in 2026 the tool doesn’t have this feature. How long has this been available in Photoshop? The CC version, and I think even before that… Anyway, a little rant after spending my evening looking for something that might not even exist. I’m going back to Photoshop… Thanks

It’s not you, the text tool doesn’t automatically wrap and can’t do a lot of things. That’s why there’s a complete overhaul in progress.

I think it’s already available in the pre-alpha (Krita Next) version, if you want to try it.

The latest development state of the new text facilities is in the 5.3.0 pre-alpha at
Index of /ci-builds/graphics/krita/master

e.g:

It takes a bit of getting used to but I’m sure the manual will be updated when the time comes.

Hello,
Okay yes, thankfully it’s being redesigned because it seems like a major emergency.
In any case, Krita can be happy to have such a responsive and active community as you.

Thanks guys!
