NSFW - Blurred or not blurred?

While we’re on the topic, all the time I’ve been here, nsfw images have not been blurred when I view them. A couple days back I checked the “Do not blur NFSW Content” on my profile, and now they are all blurred. I’ve tried unchecking it and saving, then rechecking it and saving, they are all still blurred, what’s up with that?

I have that checkmark in place as well (don’t blur NSFW) but all NSFW artwork is blurred.

Perhaps we are using a different kind of tag, one that overrides that setting. Let’s ask @raghukamath what he thinks of this.

Thanks for breaking this off to a new topic, I was going to post it as a tech support question but hadn’t gotten around to it yet, procrastination is in my DNA :stuck_out_tongue:

Now that you’ve confirmed it’s not just me, I also suspect it has to do with the handling of the tag in the back end of the forum software

I just tried it in firefox, my usual browser, with no ad blocking or vpn to make sure that wasn’t the issue, I got the same result, and logging in with google chrome without ad blocking and vpn didn’t change anything either.

I thought it would be good to know if it was something that simple

We should remove that checkbox since it is a hack and doesn’t work now. Even the nsfw system is a hack I wish discourse forum software had something inbuilt for such things. Also deciding what is nsfw and what is not is really bothersome.

Please ignore the checkbox it doesn’t work and I will remove that all nfsw image will be blurred.

Meanwhile with all the hassle I think it is better to state on the signup that the website contains nsfw images and if you are under age using the forum should need parental supervision or better we should close the forum for under 18 people and be done with this nsfw shenanigans :frowning: (sorry for the rant. And please take it with a pinch of salt. I am just stressed with the moderating the posts that need me to write a rule book with extreme detail of what constitutes a nsfw and what not)

I also find that ‘nsfw’ images are blurred even though I’ve set ‘do not blur’ in my Profile.
I don’t find it inconvenient though because there are very few nsfw images.

I fully agree with you there.

However, it would be a great pity to have to restrict membership to an 18+ age.

i.e. in the age range 13-17. Yes, give them a clear ‘warning’.
(As I understand it, the 13+ age limit would still be in place for separate legal reasons.)

I know this was a rant from my frustration. So not something I wrote without thinking through.

Yes 13+ is required by law but they can be excluded and the forum can be made 18+. I agree it would be bad as much of our user might be in the 13-17 range. If it was allowed we would have even children users. Since some schools also have krita.

That is why I think it would be a pity to have the forum as 18+.

If the forum was 18+, should there still be ‘acceptable content’ requirements?
This is a public topic so I wonder what range of opinions there is among users here.

Is this a possibility? It would be wonderful not to deal with the NSFW tags.

I used to host some pretty good size ufo/paranormal discussion forums with multiple boards, the first time you entered one that could include “adult” discussions, I first made sure you were logged in, so I knew you had agreed to the main TOS, and then on first use of that board, I popped up a window with a statement like “this board may include discussions of sex, violence, etc” and put “I have read the warning and wish to continue” with a check box at the bottom of the window so they had to scroll down to find it and check it.

You can adjust the language to cover age, content, etc., the user sees and agrees to it once, and your butt is covered, in the legal sense. Any content warning or TOS is just a tool show a good faith effort on the part of the operators to manage content access.

It worked for me back then, and it didn’t break the flow of the discussions with bothersome content warnings on messages. Plus, it saved the moderators having to constantly monitor content for compliance.

That’s all I got at the the moment.

Sorry to revive this thread, but I actually was about to start a new thread about this.

To clarify/summarize: the “Do not blur NSFW Content” checkbox does not work and this is a known thing… right?

I have this box checked and all the NSFW images are still blurred. To be honest, I find this pretty annoying… especially as someone with an interest in anatomy and figure drawing.

I have to click into every single thread and then click on every image to even see if it’s something I want (or don’t want!) to see, haha.

By the way, I patched together a quick workaround to disable NSFW blur locally, in case anyone else is bugged by this
