Saw your concept art. Thanks for the link! Really liked #4 + #7 of the first post! And wow, #15 of that group. That one is so cool. The mood of the rider and woods immediately pulled me. And same for #3 in the Sinster/Serene theme. (There were others also, but I assumed a list of numbers might be a little tough to convey! 
) I liked the presence of the Big Trees. Each one had such personality. Overall, you have a great variety and expression in your concept art.
I see what you mean on your work with values. The distance is well described in them. As well as the mood. But, yeah, probably not going to get too much precision (conceptually) that way.
I came across one artist who had the method of value thumb-nailing as you do, then scaling it to full canvas (lowered opacity), line drawing on top of that, then laying in basic local color āsilhouettesā and going from there. But, sounds like you were already experimenting with something like that (at times 
).
In fact, I was searching for a long time for a pencil brush to draw rough, exploratory sketches, which I think is what you are referring to. I did a lot of pencil sketching before digital, so I feel more comfortable with pencils. I could be more relaxed while defined when on paper (if that makes sense) and had been very frustrated with not finding a brush.
My sister recently recommended a brush set ā Rakurri Brush Set V2 - Free Krita Brushes š ā may or may not have heard of it, but the āBlyantā pencil is really good for what I was describing. Itās made a world of difference! The set also has a lot of other neat brushes that might be to your style.
(I actually just recently started a sketchbook on char design: Character Designs / Concept Art and I mainly used that brush. Obviously not the silhouettes, but the facial sketches & you can see it still beneath the colored picture also.)
But, I had been starting to cramp up with using lines for rough sketches until I found it ā and I knew I liked working with pencil. So, if somehow that could be helpful to you, awesome.
Hey, by the way, I wanted to thank you. Some time ago, I had asked about your mouse drawing (your profile I see and another was also in your concept art) and you had shared your inspirations behind it. You mentioned āMouse Guardā. I had never heard of it. I was able to find and read āFallā and āWinterā. Anyways, Iām really looking to break into doing graphic novels of my own and Iāve looked over literally dozens if not a hundred different graphic novels and nothing has come close to inspiring me in tone, layout or character as that series had. Needless to say, I also just really enjoy the series, so thanks so much for passing it on.
