My submission to M+DEV 2023: “Moving Parts”, awarded Best Animation and People’s Choice! Animated entirely in Krita!
Had to compress it to post on here, but the full resolution version is viewable on my Art Station and Instagram (AdenRidesDragons).
I feel like more people need to be talking about the merits of Krita for pixel animation, and if posting this piece helps discussion or sparks inspiration, that’s all I could want.
(I don’t particularly have a strong internet presence, so if I messed up something important regarding the etiquette of posting here, please help me fix it!)
It looks really cool, but I’m straining to see it!
Can the post be adjusted to display the gif full size?
Normally, with a static image, you can click on it to display larger. But clicking on an animated gif stops or starts the animation, so it can’t be viewed optimally without opening it in a new tab.
I know the thumbnail size can be adjusted, so maybe that can solve it. I can’t do it myself so better summon @AhabGreybeard
@Mythmaker I did right-click → Open Image in New Tab
You can then do Ctrl+‘+’ or Ctrl+(Shift+‘-’) depending how you think about that sort of thing.
The size of the forum image is derived from the original by a method and rules that I don’t know about. It’ll be built in to the forum software. @raghukamath may be able to make tweaks to it but that would have to be carefully tested for a variety of image sizes and types.
I would request everyone to post webm that gives bigger video player. To make the gif bigger we may need to tweak discourse css and I would do that only as last resort. So please upload webm
I used a web based utility to extract the frames from the original animated .gif image:
584 frames of 664 x 347 px.
Rendering as .webm gave poor quality and a file size of 5.9 MB.
Edit;Add: The rendered .mp4 video is 1.7 MB and is good quality.
I won’t post the video because the utility I used to extract the .gif frames has some timing issues.
However, here is a good frame from the .mp4 video:
Hey, glad to be here! I’d be happy to talk about my process if you have questions.
Thanks for suggesting that I link the other platforms in my profile… I gave it a shot!
Ah, noted, thank you! I can’t seem to edit my original post or upload a new attachment by replying, so unfortunately I’ll have to save your suggestion for future posts…
Hey, I’m so happy you like my animation! Sorry about the quality of the post… I had to compress it like crazy to meet the upload limit. Unfortunately, I can’t seem to edit my original post or attach a new version of the file in a reply, so all I can do is link the high-res version on my ArtStation. https://www.artstation.com/artwork/kQXWRn
