Hello. My name is Igor and I have a problem with a brush (b_basic_2 Opacity).
After using an eraser. The brush doesn’t work. And it shows that some setting of that brush was changed. So I reset all changes to default. And it works again.
(Win 10 Pro,Wacom Intous 4 L).
Also, I don’t know how to make an eraser as a default. Seldom when I turn my pen around my eraser works like a previous brush.
The subject or erasing often causes confusion for new users.
If you click on the ‘Set eraser mode’ icon on the Taskbar at the top of the screen, which is probably what you did, you don’t ‘choose an eraser’, you change the current brush so that it paints in eraser blending mode. This effectively turns it into an eraser. This is not actually indicated in the brush blending mode selector on the Toolbar but is indicated by the eraser mode icon changing colour.
If you open the brush editor and reset changes then yes, the brush will go back to being a paintbrush and the eraser mode icon will go back to normal.
It’s quicker and easier just to click the eraser mode icon again because it’s a toggle action icon.
There are specific eraser brush presets that you can find in the Brush Presets docker by typing ‘eraser’ in the search box at the bottom of the docker. These are ‘brushes’ with a specific eraser behaviour.
When you use the ‘eraser end’ of your stylus, it is recognised as a second/different brush preset by krita and you have to use it to select an eraser type of brush preset from the brush preset docker. (Or, you can choose any other preset you like and you’ll have two different painting brushes at each end of your stylus.) After you’ve done that, it will be remembered as using that particular eraser preset and can be used as an eraser throughout the session.
There is a bug however, where this choice is not properly remembered after you quit krita so on the next session, you have to use the eraser end to select an eraser preset again, which will stay as an eraser for the rest of the session.
Its probably pen’s software but, whenever i reset computer. I löse my pen’s button-2 Command.
Button 2 causes Krita to change brush to eraser as default(generally it cant change when i press the button 2. not working properly), but i want to use it as “pan tool”. So, i go XP-Pen’s software, Tablet Configuration Panel (vS.1.4.0), then >Pen Buttons >Pen Button 2 >Command: No Action (changing as this) and apply. Each time i reset computer, i do this to use Button 2 as “pan tool”. After i set this, button2 Works as “space” button at keyboard.
If you lose your pen-button actions after you restart your computer then that is obviously a problem with your drawing tablet drivers and control/utility application.
If button-2 causes the brush to change to eraser mode (as indicated by the Toolbar eraser mode icon changing to be ‘active’) then this means that button-2 is sending an ‘E’ key signal to krita. Some people want this to happen because they like to quickly switch to eraser mode in this way.
The ‘space’ key is used to temporarily activate the pan tool, as you’ll see by pressing and holding the spacebar on your keyboard. So, with the button mapped to the space key, you can quickly pan your image and if you hold down the Ctrl key at the same time, you can zoom in and out by moving the cursor up and down the screen. (Ctrl+space is the continuous zoom control.)
Any problems with your tablet/pen/driver are nothing to do with krita and you are sadly stuck with them, unless an updated driver is available to download and install.
If your pen button-2 puts out an ‘E’ signal by default after a restart, it is possible to go into krita’s Canvas Input Settings settings and remap the pan control to the ‘E’ key. This will obviously clash with the keyboard shortcut (set erase mode) for the ‘E’ key so you can then go to the Keyboard Shortcut settings and remap this to Shift+E for eraser mode.
That is possible but there is a risk of making mistakes and getting very confused.
Thanks for repond. Yes, i see icons, it puts out “E” signal by default when i use button-2 after restarting computer, and open krita again. The thing is that i dont have much button at drawing tablet and i used to “E” for eraser directly. For now, i just sent mail to XP-Pen with all detail and asked for updating software if possible. I will wait some, at least for respond, if there is not a change for updated version of Tablet Configuration Panel… then i can consider changing shortcut buttons.
