Quick workaround would be setting airbrush Density to 95% (or lower)
IT will introduce grain that will dither collor gradients.
Additionally It is possible to lesser Density on Blend brushes with Auto tip which may result in smooth dithering in collor transition.
Drawback is it introduces visible grain if not blended with multiple passes
Personally I like grain in paintings anyways
