Proko Pencil from Infinite Painter for Krita

Hello, this is my first post and contribution to this community.

I love Krita, I’ve been using it for many years and it’s my main drawing program.

I’ve always liked to do my drawings on paper by first sketching in pencil and then inking, but I never found a brush in Krita that could mimic the feel of a real pencil the way I like it. So I’ve always gone straight to inking.

A while back I discovered Infinite Painter and its “Proko Pencil”. I’ve downloaded several brushes from this community that try to mimic it (and also the one from CSP and Adobe Fresco) but none of them had the same feel as the one in the Infinite Painter app. So I decided to create my own.

Here is the link to download the brush (in .bundle format):

I also leave you the brush tip from Infinite Painter, in case you want to create your own version:

If you need more information on how I have it configured, I can send you screenshots of my current configuration of this brush.

The texture I’m using is the one that comes in Krita by default with the “c) Pencil-5 Tilted”. It’s called “04_paper-C-grain.png (512 x 512)”. I think it works pretty similar to the one this brush has in Infinite Painter, so I didn’t change it.

Hope you like it!

It has tilt, opacity, rotation and pressure (you can see in the image below)

Welcome to KA and thanks for sharing this!

I’m always on the lookout for good pencil brushes and this one looks nice, with the kind of gradient tip shape that makes sketching very comfortable. I’m looking forward to trying it out when I next get the chance. :eyes:

Thank you! Tell me if you enjoy it when you try

Thank you for sharing! I learnt sketching from Proko videos, had been trying to emulate the pencil sketch look, but I am just not good with these kinds of things. Always turns into pen-like brush with soft edges with added texture. Gonna try this soon :+1:

Ok i tried this brush, its works for sketching it got a good result, i didnt know about the potential of the Proko Pencil, but for sketching looks amazing, and the draw the details too.
I make a draw practice Fan Art for this pencil. This is the result.

Its Kodai from Yamato Space.
i used the texture Graphite Paper 02.png
I am not sure, if this works as a tilt shading pencil, because in some strokes makes more difficult to shading as well, maybe if i tweak or change the Tilt elevation i could get the shadding pencil effect. But i am not sure how the real pencil of Proko works. If that pencil can do a real pencil shading effect.

I did some test by redrawing Proko tutorial on hair, which is my usual go to test for textured brush. I had to crank up the opacity and flow curve in the brush setting to use it but maybe that’s because I turn down my tablet sensitivity way down to help me with precision stroke.

But overall the pencil brush is great for broad shading which is the side way pencil hold in traditional sketch. Other than the round eraser, I only use 1 other brush which is the default pencil that has the sharp tip edge to create some lines. Also don’t mind the funny chicken

Proko sharpens his pencils in such a way that the charcoal is very much exposed, as if it were an extremely long and sharp point made of this material. Here is a video of it:

This brush is set more to my liking, so that even if I tilt the pencil slightly 20º, it doesn’t affect the fine shape for outlining, and when I really want to shade, I have to tilt it a lot.

In Krita’s brush settings you can change this value if you prefer the brush to be less or more tilted so that the size change is activated and you can shade more easily, without having to tilt the pencil so much.

Thanks for sharing your art!

@Selk, Please provide credit statement and a link for the source of that photograph to show you have permission to upload it here.

This is required by the Code of Conduct: FAQ - Krita Artists

8. Post Only Your Own Stuff

You may not post anything that belongs to someone else without permission. The exception is reference images, in which case every attempt should be made to credit the artist or photographer by name. In all cases a link to the image owner’s website must be included.

I understand now, after seeing a lot of videos how this pencil works.

I am amazed at the idea of how powerful it could be for Krita brush engine.
I have more interesting in how did you config. It could be posible to share your configuration?

Sorry, I didn’t realize that sharing a small portion of an image implied this. I obviously don’t have permission from the creator. I don’t think I’ll ever get it no matter how much I ask.

I have put a link to the youtube video from which I have taken the image. If that is sufficient fine, if not, let me know and I will upload a personal image or nothing at all, since the interested person has already seen what I was referring to.

I will upload tomorrow.

Then you obviously don’t have permission to upload it to this forum.
The image has been removed. Please don’t do this again.

If you have any photos that you created yourself, you can upload those and state that they were taken by you.
If an image is taken from a website which states that its content is ‘free to use’ or some form of CC license then you can upload that provided that you add a link to where you got the image from.

i tried with my Huion, i think i believe you are using the SPEN creator stylus right? looks like its not a Ipad.
But in that case you have a god pressure settings, wich in my case its not reflecting the same result sadly. However the change i made with my sample drawing

its turned in one of my main Sketch pencils i am using right now.
My wip still in process.

I have to say you have a great hability to create and ported brushes, because in infinite painter there is the 6B pencil after the Proko pencil resemble. I hope in the future you can ported that pencil brush too.

That’s great! I’m glad to hear you’re putting it to excellent use.

The spen creator edition doesn’t give more levels of pen pressure. The only benefit compared to the normal spen is being able to tilt it a little more.

You ask and I make it .

The truth is that it is my first brush and I didn’t have much to do, don’t think I’m an expert, I just keep touching buttons until it works.

I’m on holidays, so tomorrow morning I try to make that pencil for you.
