I’ve read in a different thread about the subject and from what I understood is that there isn’t any plan to ever bring in any of these functionalities in Krita since it’s meant to replicate traditional Cel-animation. It’s a shame since it’s a great tool for doin more of a limited style traditional animation which saves time. Adding this feature would bring Krita to greater heights.
If the argument is that it’s supposed to replicate cel-animation then you probably should strip it down from having other functions like tweening and so forth… In my opinion it sounds more like an excuse. Hopefully it will be added sometime in the near future.
The main reason is that Krita’s team is already underfunded and understaffed. That’s why it’s currently out of scope for the core team. For such a small team it is crucial to keep a tight focus but if someone else would implement and maintain it I’m sure the team would be happy to merge a pull request for such a feature.
Now that’s a very good answer :). I intend to donate as soon as I get the opportunity. I think that Krita is way more powerful than what many people describe it in reviews. I have a monthly subscription with Adobe but I was forced to switch from animate mid production since it doesn’t work properly like it used to. I’m going to end my subscription there . I’d rather make donations to Krita than wasting my money.
That is really nice of you. Any donation is really welcome. However do note that donation wouldn’t mean implementation of this feature.
Another option for you is to hire someone or sponsor someone to do this. I am not sure of the technicalities and even if you hire ilthe code they write should be maintainable in long term.
Sorry this may sound depressing but it is how it is. May be some volunteer gets interested in your idea
I think that that day will come eventually. Not depressed at all. I’m working with Krita right now and it’s way easier to make things look great while doing traditional animation limited style than Animate. I was stressed out since I’m very close to deadline. I was using puppet tool in Animate to fasten things up a bit since it gave me a lot of trouble. Krita is something else so for the time being I won’t be needing it as much as I thought. Would still be a cool feature though. I’ll share the finished product once I’m done.
Thanks for your honest answers // cheers
You can use the Krita plugin “Blender Layer - Live 3d View in Krita” to help you with this. It’s not Puppet Warp, but I think it will still be a good support. Some training is required, especially in Blender if you don’t know it, but if you are familiar with Krita, Blender and the plugin interacting, then you can work with it within certain limits.
Get one of the free 3D figures available, or several different ones if you like, load them into Blender and bring them over to Krita using the plugin.
I got myself a small basic set with a simple art-model*, especially for the needs of artists, as well as an anatomically correct human body model (hoping I’ll learn figurative representation someday, I just have to practice, practice, practice), a mannequin**, a wolf***, a dragon***, a tree, various objects, head models and so on.
And there is significantly more free Blender material on the net. For example, on CGTrader****, Free3D*****, BlenderKit******, TurboSquid*******. The page All3DP******** has published a current list with the 15 best websites in 2023 for downloading free Blender models, as a short google search offered me as the first hit, but I can’t tell you anything about the offer of the presented sites.
Of course, you can also create your own models and objects or spend money to buy them.
The plugin “Blender Layer - Live 3d View in Krita” can be found here:

**The mannequin I once downloaded from Renderpeople, there are even more free models there nowadays, meanwhile in much better quality:

I once wrote about requests for rigging features and some said it couldn’t be done, even though almost all animation software adds rigging features, in the end I separated the layers into parts of the body, head and feet, then with layer organization it could work like rigging. yeah, like it or not, you have to make notes in a book or on an empty layer so you don’t forget which parts need to be connected using the group with transform mask feature. Use your imagination. For example, for glancing eyes, you can use transform and center point so that the pupil of the eye can glance but the white corneal blood vessels follow the movement of the pupil. But after I used the method above, that’s not the same as the rigging model, but in other software, it is given a container so that we don’t have to note which layer must be connected to the related layer.
