Rediscovering Art (New to Krita)

I’m new to Krita and I’ve been testing out its amazing brushes and those done by the community as well. This is mainly a study of that, using a reference photo by Wolfgang Hasselmann.

But there’s a deeper story as to why I “came back” to art, in a sense, which I’ve posted on a blog post on my ko-fi, called “Rediscovering Art Amidst an AI Filled World and How it Made Me Feel”, and I wanted to share it here:

"One of the effects of Paralives coming into my life was rediscovering my artistic side. Looking for artwork, patterns, and wallpapers on Pinterest to add to the game also exposed me to the inundation of AI-generated images greeting me (or tricking me) at every search. I started re-appreciating the subtlety of human-made art: the little imperfections, the quirkiness, the individual notes of the soul that produced these, which we are able to perceive consciously or unconsciously.

I craved for creating something artistic again and found the art app named Krita. It’s been lovely testing all the brushes and thinking of the possibilities it offers. Its official artistic community and artwork showcase calmed my AI-gen fatigued eyes. It makes me happy that people, humans, are still creating even though a machine competes with our every word, brushstroke, and idea.

I just wanted to share my latest test, with a reference image by Wolfgang Hasselmann (Photo on Unsplash.com) and using mostly Memileo’s Impasto Brushes (Memileo Impasto Brushes on Krita-artists.org).

Even though it’s not perfect, I enjoyed creating, expressing, and translating what I saw with the brushes. It was an exercise for the brain, the eyes, the hand, and my soul is pleased.
