I just found out about the krita reference images tool.
I think it’s very useful! I love it!
You can also do Edit → Paste as Reference Image if you want to get reference images from other open documents.
I think it’s useful but for me it lacks in functionality.
The biggest issue I have with it is that the reference images don’t move with you on the canvas.
I use it sometimes, but usally I use Pureref, because when I put it in overlay mode I can put it over Krita and it will stay in its place on my screen regardless of where I go on my canvas.
Krita has two reference.
One is reference tool - there are request floating here regarding additional functionality. I personaly wanted it pin on position in screen and rotate independently. The other tool is the much beloved reference docker - though this one is single reference photo only.
Both still get supplemented by bref/pureref.
I think eyeodin or grub has a reference library type of plugin as well.
anyway, I agree the ref tool do have potential to be much better with some additional UX functionalities. ![]()
I tried looking that up and the manual said it was “Deprecated since version 4.0.” ![]()
@catsamazeme_krita legs are too short. Try lining up the knees at the same level as the elbows, then go from there. ![]()
Oh yes, the reference docker hasn’t been in for quite a while
I believe there is a plugin available for it though
There is @freyalupen’s Reference Tabs Docker;
Just downloaded it today! I find it easier to use than the reference tool.
I actually like that the reference tool rotates with the canvas. It’s the only thing an external program can’t do.
Could someone explain how to do that please. I think I need that!
Hello @horselover2011 and welcome to the forum ![]()
Explain how to do what? There have been a few different things mentioned in this topic.
Oh, I’m sorry I should’ve clarified. I was wondering how to use the reference tool.
Click on the Reference Images Tool in the Toolbox, it looks like a pushpin.
Then in the Tool Options docker you’ll have all the controls for it.
Press the ‘+’ icon in there to select a reference image from the filesystem.
You can resize the reference image when it appears and is selected and move it around.
To manipulate reference images, select the Reference Images Tool and then click on one of your reference images to resize it, move it or delete it with the Del key.
Hover your cursor over the icons in the Tool Options docker to get a tooltip for them.
You have to hold the cursor still for about 0.75 seconds. It’s easier with a mouse.
Thank you!
I also recommend Imagine Board, very good plugin =)
Thx ![]()
I’m still learning to draw poses and I have some trouble with foreshortening ![]()
Oh yeah, with foreshortening, you have to watch your angles. This tutorial might give you an idea:
These examples aren’t foreshortened but the same principle applies, find the angle and transfer what you see to your drawing, whether it’s digital or not. ![]()
