There are also ways offered through the use of plugins, unfortunately, you did not name your operating system, as it is hinted to do in our forums FAQ, so this could be useless for you if you’re an Android user.
One very helpful plugin in canvas only mode is @wojtryb’s Shortcut Composer v1.5.4 - Plugin for Pie menus, Multiple key assignment, Mouse trackers and more!.
You can also have Krita’s Toolbox and the Tool Options Docker in canvas only mode, if you go for the Krita UI Redesign-Plugin, both can be viewed/hidden with a click of your stylus.
Access to many of Krita’s docker’s and some sliders offers KanvasBuddy - a Minimalist Toolbar, initially developed by @Kapyia and held usable with the patched version by @Halcyoen, because the initial version was for Krita 4 and was abandoned by @Kapyia. But @Halcyoen’s version works like a charm.
Instead of (the combination) of KanvasBuddy and Krita UI Redesign-Plugin, you can go for the much more advanced new Touchify from @CarWalTech, which includes the aforementioned plugins, to gain space on the canvas. And Touchify in particular is absolutely amazing once you have understood how to use it.
Unfortunately, there is no good description for Touchify yet, and there are a few reports of crashes due to Touchify, so it should not be used in a production environment, or if you want to use it in such, you should have made consecutive backups in short intervals to a deeply internalized habit, so you won’t lose much progress in case of a crash. But I have to admit, I had no crashes so far with it while testing it. The currently (2024.09.19) most recent download of it is started using this direct download-link:
