Been doing some illustrations for my next novel. I’ve done digital drawings before, but usually just quick sketches and other silly things, so this is my first time trying something more consistent. Thought I’d share them here as I go. Comments are welcome
So I’ve been wondering about whether I could accomplish a more loose result in the end, or even something closer to what I sometimes do on paper with indian ink:
I think you can achieve good traditional looking sketches and inks in Krita, so who says you have to turn your sketches into typical digital looking line art? You could leave it as a pencil sketch? Colour it in with pencils or ink brushes? I think doing it digitally for easy uploads and printing but still keeping the look of traditional mediums is what makes digital art so great!
That’s my idea, but I haven’t yet found out how to do that I’ve been experimenting with brushes to see if I can come up with something that feels more like drawing with real ink. I like drawing directly with ink without a pencil sketch when drawing on paper. Sometimes it seems like it’s easier on digital to get a ‘paint’ look than it is to get the look of an actual ink pen. But then again, I’m new to this
take 2; got frustrated and made my own reference images by taking some photos with my partner, had to re-scale hands a bit as i worked on them because he has huge hands and apparently mine are a bit chubby (i know, i’m shocked too):
