Text Tool

Hey everyone!

First off, I just want to say I’m a huge fan of Krita and have been for years! It’s an amazing tool.

That said, there’s one thing I find myself really missing – the text editor from Photoshop.

I’ve been wanting to create comics, which needs text for speech bubbles, but I don’t find Krita’s text tool to be as intuitive as I’d like. I’ve tried searching for plugins that make it easier, but without luck, so if anyone knows of a good one, I’d love to hear about it!

Currently, having to select a field on the canvas only to receive a large separate window for writing, then trying to match the text size and placement, can feel a bit tricky.
I would love a more intuitive, “what you see is what you get”-approach, where I can mark the area on the canvas, type the text directly, and adjust it easily within the selection.

Another feature I miss is the ability to snap text to the centre when working on posters. Sometimes, it’s a bit tricky to eyeball it perfectly when transforming the selection. PS generally does have some handy snapping features when it comes to the text editor, which I think are very inspiring.
Not enough to counter for the many horrible business ethics Adobe runs with - But I do miss that one feature (as the only one, really.)

If it’s something that might be explored in the future, I’d be incredibly grateful! I think it would also be helpful for many other artists.

Thank you so much for all the hard work and passion that goes into making Krita the incredible software it is. I’ve created some of my best artwork with it, and I’m truly grateful for this amazing tool!

I just want to add that I only realised later that I had overseen the latest Krita update, which addresses this request.
So all have to say here is massive thank you! I am really happy and excited to see how the software keeps on developing, expanding and evolving and I can’t wait to see what’s coming next!

 Hello @MadAlleyCat, and welcome to the forum!

:upside_down_face: Also, it seems that you have not used the forum search nor searched through this category you are posting in, because if you had, you had found the Text Tool Thread which is addressing this too. And it may be very interesting for you to read through it, but it’s a lot :grimacing: :grimacing: to read.

Have fun painting and see you in the forum!
