Transform pivot outside selection

When using the transform tool, is it possible to move the pivot outside the selected area?

It seems that the pivot can only be placed inside the rectangle of the transform tool.

The workaround I found is to select a tiny area far away from the stuff you’re transforming so that the transform rectangle is so large that you can put the pivot anywhere.

My use case is that I have a hand which isn’t visually connected to the body and I want to rotate it around the shoulder, but I don’t want to transform the shoulder.

You can’t move the pivot point outside the transform bounding box.

If you select a tiny area far from the item of interest, the transform bounding box will only enclose that area so I don’t understand how what you describe can work.

What you can do is put temporary/dummy content onto the layer so that the transform box will be larger that the ‘target content’ and then you can move the pivot point away from the ‘target content’ area.
Then erase the temporary content after you’ve finished.

mayby so?

Here’s how my workaround works.
Select what you want to edit + some empty space:

After pressing ctrl+T you get a big box and the pivot can be moved more.

There is no need to draw extra content if you use selection tool to select empty space.

It is still annoying that I have to do this in order to move the pivot.

bravo , thanks… and if you work with layers, with a marker, you can keep your the rotation point.

That’s a very good workaround for single layer use

this is one of the reasons why in my vector engine proposal I ask for a empty element for it. to do this~ because this is one of the reasons why emptys exist in animation in the first place is to do transforms in an arbitrary place with user influence and it is not rendered.
